In July, Indians spent $1.6 billion on overseas travel, a sharp rise from $1.3 billion in June and the first-quarter average of $1.2 billion. This uptick was fueled by students traveling for international summer admissions and a surge in leisure travel, including destination weddings, during the first half of the month. Overall remittances during July showed a 16.7% increase year-on-year, with travel being the largest contributor, growing by 17.1%. Other categories like investments in equity and debt also saw significant growth, rising by 108.2% to $120.2 million, while remittances for medical treatment increased by 104.3% to $8.6 million. However, these categories represent a smaller portion of the total remittances. On the other hand, remittances for deposits declined by 16.8% compared to the previous year.

It said uniform initiatives should be taken in the entire National Capital Region to prevent another Old Rajendra Nagar-type incident from happening. «If the need arises, we will pass directions for pan-India to prevent Old Rajendra Nagar-type incidents,» the bench observed.

Uttar Pradesh government told Supreme Court that the madrassa education system, focusing on religious studies, is out of sync with mainstream education and that students studying in the theological establishments could be employed only in jobs requiring class 10 or 12 pass qualifications, reported TOI. UP government's affidavit was filed in a clutch of appeals by madrassas and their teachers challenging Allahabad HC's judgment, which on March 22 quashed the Madrasa Education Act, 2004, terming it violative of fundamental rights and the principle of secularism. SC has since stayed the HC judgment. The state said mainstream subjects are taught in madrassas till class 8 as per State Council of Educational Research and Training syllabus, and, " In class 9 and 10, mainstream subjects are not compulsory… students have to choose only one subject from mathematics, home science (only for girls), logic and philosophy, social science, science and Tib (traditional medical science)."
