"Wouldn't have been possible...": Freed ex-Navy vets chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', praise PM Modi on return from Qatar
Kuwait, seven of the eight Indian navy veterans who were sentenced to death on 'espionage' charges, heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying they wouldn't have been freed had it for the sustained diplomatic efforts at his behest to secure their release. Their death sentence was later commuted to an extended prison term following sustained diplomatic interventions and legal assistance from New Delhi. Relieved to finally walk free, the seven former Navy officers raised chants of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' after arriving at the Delhi airport in the early hours of Monday.

Indian space sector to be turned into a business activity: ISRO chairman
Indian space sector is changing from a «closed» and «secretive» society to an open one and the objective behind it is to turn it into an economic or business activity instead of government programme, ISRO Chairman S Somanath said here on Saturday. The change in mindset has been influenced by how space-related activities in countries like the USA have been turned into an economic activity, Somnath said while speaking at the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters (MBIFL) 2024 being held at Kanakakunnu Palace here. The ISRO Chairman said that in the past 60 years, the work of the space sector — from making rockets to satellites — was aimed at societal application, for delivering services that benefit the common man. As a result, the budget of the space programme was «very less» — Rs 10,000 crore, he said during a session of the fifth edition of the MBIFL.

By 2030, renewables will fulfil 65% of India's energy needs: Union Minister RK Singh
India's energy requirements at present come from non-fossil sources and are likely to touch as high as 65 per cent by 2030, much higher than what the country pledged at the COP summit in 2021, said Union Minister RK Singh. At COP26 held in 2021 in Glasgow, India committed to an ambitious five-part «Panchamrit» pledge. They included reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity, generating half of all energy requirements from renewables, to reducing emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030. India as a whole also aims to reduce the emissions intensity of GDP by 45 per cent. Finally, India commits to net-zero emissions by 2070.

Reliance Consumer Products acquires Ravalgaon's confectionery brands for Rs 27 crore
Reliance Consumer Products (RCPL) has acquired the trademarks, recipes, and all intellectual property rights of sugar-boiled confectionery maker Ravalgaon for Rs 27 crore, according to a stock market disclosure by Ravalgaon Sugar Farm Ltd. Ravalgaon owns nine confectionery brands such as Pan Pasand and Coffee Break. This fits RCPL's strategy of acquiring old Indian brands which are under distress and relaunching them, like it had acquired the Campa soft drink brand. The deed was signed between both the parties on Friday. It excludes the slump sale of all assets and liabilities of Ravalgaon. “It is clarified that while 100% of the revenue of the company (Ravalgaon) is ascribed to the intellectual property being sold, the company will continue to hold all other assets such as property, land, plant, building, equipment, machinery, etc. post completion of the proposed transaction,” as per the disclosure.
