Problems between Nepal-India can be resolved through open dialogue: PM KP Sharma Oli
open dialogue and warmheartedness. «There exist few problems, not many, between Nepal and India, and they can be resolved, if we maintain warm heart and open dialogue,» Oli said here at the launch of former administrator Surya Nath Upadhyay's book titled 'International Watercourses Law: A Perspective on Nepal-India Cooperation'. «India is our friendly neighbour and Nepal and India have rich cultures so we should have an open dialogue. The blame cannot be merely imposed on the geopolitical situation for our inability to speak openly. We should not be involved in any game meant for gaining and sustaining power,» Oli said. «Earlier, foreign relations were maintained and dominated by the country's strengths. After the IInd World War, a country should present its national interests reasonably and justifiably in line with international treaties and agreements.»

Powering India's economic ambitions: How logistics holds the key to $5 trillion future
India is projected to become a USD $5 trillion economy by 2047. This growth is expected to be driven by a few major factors, key amongst which is a stronger, more robust, streamlined, organised, and efficient logistics and transport infrastructure. The recently announced Union Budget and the broader Amrit Kaal 2047 vision — the government’s active effort to make India an export-led, aatmanirbhar economy — all seek to lay a strong foundation for an organised logistics sector in India. Why? Because the logistics sector, one way or another, will be a significant economic driver for the country in coming years. Consider this: India’s current contribution to global exports stands below 2%. By undertaking strategic capacity building for the logistics sector, the government can, not just boost the economy in the short and medium terms but also supercharge long-term development and economic activity with a massive headroom for growth. Increasing the country’s participation in international value chains through a more organised logistics sector has, therefore, emerged as a clear policy priority — and key players in the space can contribute significantly to this nation building project.

Hybrid car tax relief may distort market, hurt EVs: Mercedes-Benz CEO
Mercedes-Benz India, the nation's leading luxury carmaker, argues that any tax relaxation on petrol-battery hybrids could cause industry distortion and hinder the adoption of zero-emission electric vehicles, ToI reported. Mercedes contends that lower tax rates for electric vehicles (EVs) are essential to maintain their affordability compared to petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles. «Today, consumers are not ready to pay a premium for a sustainable mobility solution. They want the prices (of EVs) to be the same or even cheaper if possible (and) in that context, I think a continuation of difference in taxation will help in better adoption, or faster adoption, of EVs,» said Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO of Mercedes India. Currently, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on electric vehicles is 5%, whereas larger hybrids face a 43% tax and regular petrol cars are taxed at 48%. «So, technically the govt has a three-tier approach, and the request is to just continue the approach so that it is beneficial in the long run,» Iyer added.

4 promotions in 6 years but Bengaluru man leaves high-paying job to 'have a life'. What he is doing now
personal happiness, one Bengaluru man has taken a bold step towards reclaiming his life. Parantap Chowdhury, a 32-year-old former Assistant Vice President at Square Yards, decided that earning Rs 54 lakh a year wasn’t enough if it meant sacrificing his health, relationships, and peace of mind. So, he quit. After spending seven years working grueling hours at startups like BYJU’s and Square Yards, Chowdhury came to a powerful realization: he was living to work, not working to live. His impressive corporate job had him managing a sales team of over 250 people and training more than 5,000 sales executives. But the demands were steep—often consuming more than 70 hours a week, leaving no room for personal growth, relaxation, or time with family. Six months ago, he decided to hit pause on this relentless race. «I quit the race to have a life, spend time with the people I love, and build a business that is remote, digital, and profitable,» Chowdhury revealed in a LinkedIn post that resonated with many. While he could have continued to earn nearly Rs 10 lakh every three months, the toll on his personal life simply wasn’t worth it.

Netflix wants to shrink your favourite TV show’s carbon footprint
Netflix Inc. show, Virgin River. A soapy drama centered on a nurse practitioner in a small, northern California town, Virgin River is the kind of show that reliably delivers buried secrets, thwarted villains and reunited lovers. That fake sunlight — the combined power of two massive 18,000-watt lights running on a giant battery — is how Netflix wants to clean up the dirty business of Hollywood productions. On most film and television sets, illumination is powered by loud, clunking diesel generators. Virgin River is one of a number of Netflix’s productions replacing generators and fossil fuel-based transportation with greener alternatives. In Atlanta, Stranger Things is dabbling with solar-powered trailers, and just outside London, Bridgerton has tested a hydrogen power unit. It’s all part of Netflix’s plan to cut its emissions roughly in half by 2030. Yet, Netflix’s progress has been marginal in the three years since it began focusing on sustainability in 2020.

Southern China braces for powerful Typhoon Yagi after it sweeps by Hong Kong
Hong Kong and was moving toward a Chinese island province where it was expected to make landfall Friday, forcing many aspects of life in the region to a halt. Trading on the stock market, bank services and schools were halted in Hong Kong after the city's weather authority raised a No. 8 typhoon signal for Typhoon Yagi, the third-highest warning under the city's weather system. Yagi, with maximum sustained winds of 230 kilometers (142 miles) per hour near its center, forced more than 250 people to seek refuge at temporary government shelters and led to cancellations of more than 100 flights in the city. Heavy rain and strong winds overnight felled dozens of trees across the financial hub before the weather gradually calmed on Friday morning. The weather forecaster was expected to downgrade the typhoon signal in the afternoon.

Brent crude price to be in $70 to $80-85 range in next 2-3 months: Geoff Dennis
Geoff Dennis, Independent Emerging Markets Commentator, says the Chinese economy is struggling, and there is no obvious reason why that growth rate is going to turn upward in the near term. Also, although the US economy is in reasonable shape and ought to avoid recession, the chances of an acceleration in growth in the US are relatively limited. So, he does not see a big surge in oil prices despite delay in output increase. What is your reading of OPEC Plus's decision to stall the hike in production by two months? This has had a knee-jerk reaction on crude oil prices, which were on a very slippery slope. But do you think the price rise will be sustained? Geoff Dennis: What is happening here is that they are forming the bottom end of a trading range. It was inevitable at some point that OPEC Plus would delay this output increase because there have been several factors pulling crude oil prices lower in the last few weeks, including worries about the US economy, worries about the Chinese economy, expectations that Libyan oil will come back on the market shortly – although that is not a big factor. Also, US inventories have been pretty strong.

Varun Saboo on 4 themes that are offering opportunities to invest in
Varun Saboo, Head, Equities, Anand Rathi, says he is positive on OMCs. Crude prices are expected to slide further from here, which will help all the oil sensitives, so that was number one. Second, he believes one stock that is a theme in itself is PVR-Inox. That is one of the ideas that still leaves massive upsides from here. Multiplex is a big theme and PVR-Inox is a very high-conviction call. Third, cement is a big theme that Anand Rathi is positive about. Finally, Saboo talks about rate-sensitives as a theme. He is extremely positive about the NBFCs like Chola and Shriram Finance. Where do you stand when it comes to crude sensitives? We have seen quite a bit of a move in paints, some of the tyre names, and OMCs as well. It is not quite the same for ONGC or Oil India, but do you sense that this is a meaty move and could be sustained? Varun Saboo: When it comes to the crude sensitives, as a house we think that crude prices will soften further. So, be it the OMCs, paints, be it anything related to them will continue to rally. I am excited about the opportunity this is providing and I think everything is falling in place for India as a market. We are extremely dependent on crude as such. This helps us further on an overall basis also. This helps the overall market as well.
