Our institutional holding is broad-based, not acquisition target any more: Srikrishnan H, Karnataka Bank
Mangaluru-headquartered private lender Karnataka Bank bets big on technology to drive its business growth. Bank’s MD & CEO Srikrishnan H shares his views on the bank’s future in a chat with ET’s KR Balasubramanyam. Edited excerpts: Karnataka Bank was started with the goal of responding to the needs of the agriculture sector. In the crowded space of present-day banking, how do you see the bank’s future? Our bank adopted an agri- lending model on a large scale much before the regulations on priority sector lending kicked in. We will continue this legacy as we enter the next 100 years with continued focus on rural, agriculture, MSME and retail business. We are implementing technology-based deliveries in each of these verticals.

ISRO's POLIX instrument commences scientific observations
X-ray polarimetry mission XPoSat launched on January one, has commenced its scientific observations. A pulse profile of the Crab pulsar is generated from the observations carried out by POLIX during January 15-18, the ISRO said on Tuesday. The Crab pulsar, a pulsating star, resides near the centre of the Crab Nebula and spins about its axis approximately 30 times per second. The POLIX payload was activated in two stages by January 10, and initial scan observations were conducted around the Crab pulsar, the intended first target. The data plotted was collected during January 15-18, and thoroughly reviewed for confirmation. The data aligns with expectations, the space agency said. «This initial observation is a significant milestone for POLIX, showcasing its functionality and readiness for investigating pulsars, black holes, and other astronomical sources,» ISRO said.

Tripura CM Manik Saha resolves Kokborok Roman Script issue, protestors withdraw road, rail blockade
Manik Saha has successfully navigated a major crisis that saw the state's critical transportation arteries blocked by supporters of the TISF, a student wing of the opposition TIPRA MOTHA party. The blockades, which targeted key national highways and railway lines, effectively isolated Tripura, causing widespread disruption and anxiety among its citizens. The blockades were an escalation of a longstanding demand by the TISF and another wing, the Twipra Students' Federation (TSF), for the recognition of the Roman script for the Kokborok language in educational assessments. This demand, rooted in a 17-year struggle for linguistic recognition, recently gained momentum following statements by Dhananjoy Gon Choudhury, President of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education.
