New Boeing 737 MAX supplier defect to delay aircraft deliveries
Boeing has recently identified a new 737 MAX quality problem involving supplier Spirit AeroSystems that has resulted in improperly drilled holes on the aft pressure bulkhead, the planemaker said on Wednesday. Boeing said the defect will delay near-term deliveries and the company is evaluating whether it could cause it to miss its annual delivery target of at least 400 737s this year. Boeing shares were down 2.7% and Spirit shares fell 6.1% in afterhours trading. The new supply-chain snag is the latest issue to impede deliveries of the cash-generating MAX following Boeing's disclosure of a problem in April that Spirit had improperly installed brackets joining the aft fuselage to the vertical tail. Boeing confirmed that the latest issue will delay the first MAX 8 delivery to Malaysia Airlines, which had scheduled an Aug.

Google vows more transparency on ads as new EU rules kick in
targeted advertisements and give researchers more access to data on how its products work, to comply with landmark European Union online content rules, the Alphabet unit said on Thursday. Known as the Digital Services Act (DSA), the new rules are more onerous for Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Twitter, booking.com, Pinterest, Snap Inc's Snapchat, Wikipedia, Zalando and Alibaba's AliExpress because of their large number of users. The DSA will go into effect on Friday and requires companies to do more to tackle child sexual abuse material and disinformation, be more transparent on their algorithmic processes, bots and targeted advertisements and to remove illegal, unsafe or counterfeit products sold on their platforms. «We will be expanding the Ads Transparency Center, a global searchable repository of advertisers across all our platforms, to meet specific DSA provisions and providing additional information on targeting for ads served in the European Union,» Google's vice president for trust and safety, Laurie Richardson, said in a blogpost. «We will increase data access for researchers looking to understand more about how Google Search, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Play and Shopping work in practice, and conducting research related to understanding systemic content risks in the EU,» she said. Grab advances break-even timeline on boost from cost cuts, strong demand
Grab Holdings forecast a smaller operating loss for the current year and pulled forward its profitability timeline on Wednesday, as cost savings from its recent workforce reduction supplement strong demand for its food delivery and ride-share services. The Southeast Asian internet firm also delivered better-than-expected results for the last quarter, sending its U.S.-listed shares up 9%. The company now expects to break even on an adjusted core earnings basis in the current quarter ending September, ahead of its earlier fourth-quarter target. Moreover, it expects $80 million in annualized cost savings from the recent changes, including layoffs. Grab is undergoing a restructuring focused on lowering costs, with measures including cuts to its cloud bill and consumer and worker incentives. In June, the company reduced around 1,000 roles, or about 11% of its workforce, in its biggest round of layoffs since early 2020, when the pandemic began. It now sees adjusted loss before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization between $30 million and $40 million, compared to its earlier forecast of $195 million to $235 million. «While we tried to optimize our bottom-line, we're also making sure that we can continue to grow our business,» Grab CFO Peter Oey said in an interview. «There's still a lot of opportunity in mobility.

Shaktikanta Das stated that vegetable prices in India are expected to decrease from September, potentially easing the recent surge in retail inflation, which reached 7.44% in July, the highest in 15 months.
