CBI was conducting searches at seven location in Gujarat in the NEET-UG paper leak case, officials said on Saturday. They said the operation began in the morning at the premises of suspects spread across four districts — Anand, Kheda, Ahmedabad and Godhra. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested the principal and the vice-principal of a school in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh and a journalist of a Hindi newspaper in connection with the National-Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test — Undergraduate (NEET-UG) paper leak, officials had said. Ehsanul Haque, the principal of Oasis School, was made the city coordinator of Hazaribagh for the medical entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 5, they said.

Tamil Nadu assembly on Friday unanimously passed a resolution against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test and urged the Union government to scrap the test. The resolution called for state governments to be allowed to undertake medical admissions based on class 12 marks, as was done before NEET was introduced. The resolution was introduced by chief minister MK Stalin. The resolution was passed with support from legislators from the ruling alliance parties, including MMK, DMDK, TVK and the CPI(M), as well as PMK, amid a boycott by BJP. The resolution also nudged the Union government to approve a bill passed by the House in 2022 seeking exemption from NEET for students from the state. Abolition of NEET has also been one of MK Stalin's and the DMK's election promises.

Vice Principal Imtiaz Alam was designated as the NTA's observer and the centre coordinator at the Oasis School, officials said, adding the CBI is also questioning five more people from the district in connection with the paper leak case. The federal probe agency arrested Haque and Alam after detailed questioning, they said.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) Friday said the amendments to mobile number portability (MNP) regulations to curb SIM swap and replacement frauds will come into effect from July 1. «The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), on 14th March, 2024, issued the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth amendment) Regulations, 2024, which will come into force on 1st July, 2024,» TRAI said. The regulator had notified the amendment in March 2024, after consulting stakeholders. The amendment adds an additional criterion for rejecting generation of the Unique Porting Code (UPC) required to port a SIM card to a different telecom service provider.
