Singapore's DBS Group has appointed Tan Su Shan, currently its institutional banking group head, as CEO from March, replacing Piyush Gupta, who has led Southeast Asia's biggest bank for 14 years. She will be the bank's first female chief executive and also the first to be appointed from within the ranks of the bank.

Nasa is contemplating extending the stay of astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams from one week to eight months aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This consideration arises due to concerns about the safety of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft for returning astronauts to Earth. If deemed unsafe, those on the ISS might have to use SpaceX's Crew Dragon for their return journey in February 2025. Nasa officials are expecting to decide later this month whether to continue with Starliner, which encountered propulsion issues during its June flight to the ISS. With Wilmore and Williams potentially stranded on the ISS, plans are being developed for their safe return to Earth. “However, with the two additional astronauts stranded on the ISS, Nasa has had to develop a plan to bring them back to Earth,” stated an official.

The official mentioned that the online portal to fast-track PLI visas has been operational for about a week. The aim of this special initiative is to ensure smoother approvals of visas for technicians, mostly from China. «We have set up an online portal to fast-track visas for technicians in PLI sectors, including for Chinese vendors,» said the official. According to a government source, a meeting was also held with stakeholders to sensitize them on the workings of the online portal to fast-track PLI visas. The objective is to shorten the visa processing time from the current 4-5 months to within 30 days, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

Piyush Goyal on Wednesday suggested the seven member countries of the BIMSTEC bloc to relook at the progress of Free Trade Agreement talks which are moving at a very slow pace. He said that the members can think of negotiating a preferential trade agreement instead of a full-fledged free trade pact. BIMSTEC stands for the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation. Its seven members are five South Asian countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka) and two Southeast Asian countries (Myanmar and Thailand). The bloc has been negotiating a proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) since 2004.

Yediyurappa had recently demanded that Siddaramaiah has to resign before the BJP-JD(S)' protest march from Bengaluru against the MUDA site allotment 'scam' reaches Mysuru. The week-long Bengaluru-Mysuru padayatre (foot march) has sought to highlight the alleged fraudulent allotment of sites to land losers by MUDA, including to Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi. «Yediyurappa has been accused in a POCSO case, chargesheet has been filed. Because of the court's mercy he is outside and not in jail. One cannot get bail in such cases,» Siddaramaiah said. Addressing reporters here, he said, «What moral right does Yediyurappa have? At this age he is caught in a POCSO case...He should retire from public life. At 81 years of age he is accused of sexually assaulting a girl and is caught in a POCSO case… First let him retire from public life.
