Waters Racing Swimming show Olympics testing triathlon Olympic triathletes will swim in Paris' Seine River after days of concerns about water quality
Seine River, the women's and men's Olympic triathlon races will go forward Wednesday with a swim in the famed Paris waterway. The decision to go ahead with the Seine swim for the triathlon competitions is a big win for the city, Olympics organizers and the athletes. Officials undertook an ambitious plan, including 1.4 billion euros ($1.5 billion) in infrastructure improvements, to clean up the long-polluted Seine and have been steadfast in their insistence that the swimming portion of the triathlon and the marathon swimming events next week could safely be held in the river.

film Olympics reports Features triathlon Seine today will be safe and not insane
Inshallah, the 2024 action-horror disaster film Under Paris — the original French title, 'Sous la Seine' (Under the Seine) — will remain a fictional thrill as the Olympic Games opening ceremony unfolds today. This unprecedented event — it's the first time an opening ceremony is taking place outside a stadium, along Paris' iconic river — will feature over 200 delegations gliding down the river, with thousands cheering along the banks. In the Xavier Gens movie, Lilith, a tagged shortfin mako shark — usually found in temperate and tropical seas — finds its way into the freshwater river for 'revenge'. Mayhem follows, Paris turning into a battleground. On finding out that Lilith has entered pre-Olympic Paris, scientists request the Parisian authorities to postpone the triathlon event. The mayor — not Anne Hidalgo, the real mayor — insists on going ahead, stressing the event's importance for global visibility and the billions already spent. Without giving the film away, let's just say the Olympic triathlon event in Paris becomes a veritable bloodsport. But not to worry. Instead of a rampaging shark that makes Jaws look like Nibbles, the Seine will (surely) be graced with floats and fanfare. Free of the garbage that was reportedly floating around in it till a few weeks ago, the Seine should see swimmers safe. And, hopefully, friendly fins.

UPS Citi Waters Swimming testing triathlon Troubled Waters: Will the Seine be clean enough by the Olympics? Not even the experts know yet
Paris Olympics less than two weeks away, a question hangs over the Games: Will the Seine River be clean enough for athletes to swim in? Triathlon and marathon swimming are scheduled to take place in the Seine, where it has been illegal to swim for more than a century. Despite the city's efforts to clean up the long-polluted river, the water has tested unsafe for humans in recent weeks, and cleaner on other days. The Games run from July 26-Aug. 11. To clean up the river, Paris invested 1.4 billion euros ($1.5 billion) in building infrastructure to catch more stormwater when it rains — the same water that contains bacteria-laden wastewater that enters the river during periods of heavy rain and makes it unsafe to swim in. In May, Paris officials inaugurated a giant underground water storage basin next to the Austerlitz train station aimed at collecting excess rainwater and stopping wastewater from entering the Seine. The basin can hold the equivalent of 20 Olympic swimming pools of dirty water that will now be treated and is the centerpiece of major infrastructure improvements that the city has rushed to finish in time for the Games, but to also ensure that Parisians have a cleaner Seine in years to come.
