When a wine tastes like a ‘old sari box’
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Apart from sneaky sips from my parent’s wine glasses and surreptitious glugging of Christmas wine offered in church, my real tryst with wine began years ago at a swish wine bar in Mumbai. Millennials of a particular vintage will remember IVY, the very ahead-of-its-time chain of wine bars by Chateau Indage across the country in the noughties, which served Chateau Indage’s own brands and as well as imports from Australia and South Africa.

23 wins, 1 heartbreak: Rohit Sharma’s emotional reflection on team India’s journey since 2023 World Cup to Champions Trophy
Rohit Sharma says the Indian team has endured cricket's vicissitudes in the last nine months but it waged a collective battle to achieve success and every member of the side that competed in the last three ICC tournaments deserves «respect». In their last three ICC limited-overs tournaments, India have lost only one out of 24 matches, with the defeat coming against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad. The India team recently won the ICC Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup in Barbados last year. In between India lost a rare home Test series against New Zealand and away in Australia. Reflecting on his remarkable tenure as India captain, Rohit said: «Look at what this team has achieved in this big three tournaments. After playing the tournament like that and getting defeated only once and that too in a final (2023 ODI World Cup).»

My companies are suffering because I am in the government: Elon Musk
Elon Musk, in an interview with Fox News, claimed that his companies are “suffering” due to his involvement in the government. He emphasised that his role in the government puts him at a disadvantage, not an advantage. “If I wasn’t in the government, I could lobby. I could push for things that are advantageous to my company and probably get it,” he clarified. Musk heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an advisory body set up by President Trump to cut the federal workforce and eliminate wasteful spending. Concerns about potential conflicts of interest have grown, given his private businesses alongside his government role and its impact on official decisions.

No hiding place when it comes to facing India: England's Joe Root
Joe Root has advocated for consistency to counter India in the upcoming five-Test series, saying «there's no hiding place» when it comes to facing such an indomitable opponent. India will commence their their 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle in England with the opening match scheduled at Headingley from June 20. Root, who surpassed Alastair Cook as England's all-time highest Test run-getter last year, is gearing up for the challenge following an impressive showing in the Champions Trophy recently. «We are good in our own conditions but with India coming over for a five-match series there's no hiding place. It's a long old slog, you've got to be consistent. You've got to put in those match-winning performances time and time again,» the former England skipper told Sky Sports. Root, 34, led the England Test team from 2017 to 2022, recording 27 victories in 64 matches — the most by any captain from the country. However, a difficult period in 2021, where the team won just one of 17 matches and suffered an Ashes debacle Down Under, led to his decision to step down from the role.

Could MS Dhoni win it for CSK if he was sent earlier? Shane Watson thinks so
Dhoni came to bat at number nine as Ravichandran Ashwin was sent ahead of him. He smashed the RCB bowlers all around the park for an unbeaten 30 off 16 balls but the effort went in vain as it came too late. The match was as good as over before Dhoni came to the crease. «This is exactly what CSK fans come to see — 30 off 16 deliveries from Dhoni. I would have absolutely loved to see him come up the order. In my opinion, he should have batted ahead of Ashwin,» Watson, who is a JioStar expert, said. «Given the game situation, Dhoni could have played like this for another 15 balls. Over the last couple of years, he has consistently shown that he's still batting beautifully. I truly believe he should be promoted up the order so we can see the full extent of his skills. » However, this is not a new phenomena as Dhoni, after having retired from the game, he had batted lower down the order even in the previous edition.

Don't discount us: CSK Coach Stephen Fleming defends his team after 50-run loss to RCB at home
Stephen Fleming stoutly countered the criticism that his team's brand of cricket was getting outdated, saying the team had enough «firepower» and no one should make the mistake of discounting them. Five-time IPL champions CSK lost to RCB by 50 runs, unable to chase a steep 196/7 set by Rajat Patidar's side on Friday. CSK's defeat to RCB in the 'Southern Derby' in their own den was their first since the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 and it was also their biggest reversal at home thus far. In response to a question if his brand of cricket was getting outdated, the former New Zealand skipper shot back, «What do you mean, my way of playing (cricket)? Like winning the first game, that's a good way to play. We've got firepower all the way through. I don't understand this question.» «Just because we don't swing (the bat) from ball one and have a little bit of luck go our way, we'll see at the end,» said the New Zealander after his team was restricted to 146/8 in 20 overs. The 51-year-added that CSK should not be «discounted» just because they had lost one match.

Bengaluru youth shares how he was forced by a woman to give up his seat in metro. Netizens has some hilarious advice for him
The young man, a 21-year-old student, had boarded the Bangalore Metro after a long and exhausting day. Having just completed an entrance exam, he was both physically and mentally drained. After standing for some time, he finally managed to find an empty seat, allowing him a brief moment of relief during his 40-minute commute. However, his respite was short-lived. Soon after, a woman, likely in her early thirties, entered the metro and directed her gaze toward him. She showed no apparent signs of needing special assistance—she was neither pregnant, injured, nor accompanied by a child. There was nothing visibly indicating that she required the seat more than anyone else. Moreover, the seat he occupied was not designated as a priority or a women’s seat.

Myanmar earthquake toll passes 1,000 as rescuers dig for survivors
The shallow 7.7-magnitude quake struck northwest of the city of Sagaing in central Myanmar in the early afternoon, followed minutes later by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock. The quake destroyed buildings, downed bridges, and buckled roads across swathes of Myanmar, with massive destruction seen in Mandalay, the country's second biggest city and home to more than 1.7 million people. At least 1,002 people were killed and nearly 2,400 injured in Myanmar, the ruling junta said in a statement. Around 10 more deaths have been confirmed in Bangkok. But with communications badly disrupted, the true scale of the disaster is only starting to emerge from the isolated military-ruled state, and the toll is expected to rise significantly.

The science behind the powerful earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand
Sagaing region near the Myanmar city of Mandalay caused extensive damage in that country and also shook neighbouring Thailand on Friday. HOW VULNERABLE IS MYANMAR TO EARTHQUAKES? Myanmar lies on the boundary between two tectonic plates and is one of the world's most seismically active countries, although large and destructive earthquakes have been relatively rare in the Sagaing region. «The plate boundary between the India Plate and Eurasia Plate runs approximately north-south, cutting through the middle of the country,» said Joanna Faure Walker, a professor and earthquake expert at University College London. She said the plates move past each other horizontally at different speeds. While this causes «strike slip» quakes that are normally less powerful than those seen in «subduction zones» like Sumatra, where one plate slides under another, they can still reach magnitudes of 7 to 8.
