Gujarat Titans showed us how to bowl on that wicket: Mumbi Indians' Trent Boult
Mumbai Indians' senior pacer Trent Boult said the Gujarat Titans bowlers made good use of the black soil pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium and successfully tied up the MI batters by taking the pace off the ball. Hosts GT beat MI by 36 runs in their IPL match after posting 196 for eight here on Saturday, as dew did not come into the picture. «Good tactics from the opposition. If you have those options to do that, it obviously makes sense, but I don't think we'll be using it as an excuse,» Boult said at the post-match press conference. «There are players in our team that have played all over the country on all different types of wickets. So, in all honesty, just an off game tonight, I thought they (GT) scrapped their way to a good total and they showed us how to bowl on that wicket. So full credit to them,» Boult added. The track used for the game was black soil instead of the red one, but the seasoned Kiwi refused to use it as an excuse. «I think it was just good thinking of using home tactics to your advantage. Obviously, there should be an advantage for the home team. But like I said, not an excuse from our point of view. We understood the wicket was black soil and I don't think we just didn't adjust nicely enough,» Boult said.

Maduro says 324 Venezuelans sent by US to El Salvador prison
US President Donald Trump invoked rarely used US wartime legislation to fly the Venezuelans to El Salvador on March 16, without the migrants being afforded any kind of court hearing. Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele said 238 Venezuelans were sent to his country after the United States accused them of being part of the Tren de Aragua criminal gang. It is an «embarrassment that has been committed with the kidnapping and forced disappearance of 324 Venezuelan migrants who were taken to a Nazi concentration camp in El Salvador,» Maduro said at a meeting in Caracas with foreign ministers from the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) bloc. Maduro did not explain where he got the figure from, and acknowledged that he does not yet have an official list.

Post, protest, pack up: Indian students among those told to self-deport by US
international students in the US have received emails from the US State Department instructing them to self-deport due to alleged involvement in campus activism. Immigration attorneys confirmed to TOI's Lubna Kably that some Indian students are also among those affected, with actions as minor as sharing a social media post leading to visa revocations. This crackdown follows a directive from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which mandates social media reviews of both current international students and new applicants for student visas. Those found in violation face visa cancellations, making them ineligible to study in the US. Axios previously reported that this effort, powered by artificial intelligence, has resulted in the revocation of over 300 student visas. Affected students have been informed that their Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records have been terminated, leaving them no grace period to stay in the country. The email states, «On behalf of the US Department of State, the Bureau of Consular Affairs Visa Office hereby informs you that additional information became available after your visa was issued. As a result, your F-1 visa with expiration date XXXXX was revoked in accordance with Section 221(i) of the US Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended.»

Hamas says it accepts a new Gaza ceasefire proposal but Israel makes a counter-offer
Early in the week, an Egyptian official described the proposal to The Associated Press, saying Hamas would release five living hostages, including an American-Israeli, from Gaza in return for Israel allowing aid into the territory and a weekslong pause in fighting. Israel would release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief media on the closed-door talks. On Saturday, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave no details about Israel's counter-proposal, which it said was offered after Netanyahu held consultations on Friday. Israel a week and a half ago ended its ceasefire with Hamas by launching a surprise wave of strikes that killed hundreds of people. The White House blamed Hamas for the renewed fighting. Israel has vowed to escalate the war until Hamas returns the 59 hostages it still holds — 24 of them believed to be alive. Israel also wants Hamas to give up power, disarm and send its leaders into exile. On Saturday, Israel widened its ground operations in Gaza's southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt.

India, US hold trade talks; to work towards negotiating first tranche of FTA
trade talks in New Delhi as part of efforts to negotiate the first tranche of a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by fall of 2025. Representatives of India's Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative held meeting in the national capital for four days beginning March 26 as a follow up to the two countries agreeing to expand bilateral trade to reach USD 500 billion by 2030, including through the conclusion of a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). A Commerce and Industry Ministry release said that in order to realize the shared objective of promoting growth that ensures fairness, national security and job creation, both sides have through four-days of discussions in New Delhi broadly come to an understanding on the next steps towards a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), with the goal to finalize its first tranche by fall 2025. Sectoral expert level engagements under the BTA will start virtually in the coming weeks and pave the path for an early negotiating round in person. «During these discussions the two sides also had a productive exchange of views on deepening bilateral cooperation in priority areas including increasing market access, reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers and deepening supply chain integration in a mutually beneficial manner,» the release said.

‘They’ll be better off in India’: American woman shares 8 reasons why she’s raising kids in India
Instagram to highlight why she believes her children will have a richer childhood in India compared to the USA. She listed eight key reasons that make India an ideal place for raising kids. One of the biggest advantages, according to Kristen, is the exposure to diverse cultures, languages, and traditions. Growing up in India allows children to develop cultural awareness and adaptability, making them more open-minded and accepting of different perspectives. Additionally, India’s multilingual environment ensures that her children will learn Hindi alongside English and be exposed to various regional languages. This, she believes, will enhance their cognitive abilities, communication skills, and future career opportunities. Kristen also emphasized that growing up in India will provide her children with a broader global perspective. They will gain insights into different societal norms, regional issues, and global challenges, shaping them into more informed global citizens. Furthermore, the experience of adjusting to a new educational system and social environment will build their resilience, independence, and problem-solving skills.

Delhi court dismisses plea seeking prosecution of AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj for alleged defamation
Delhi court on Saturday dismissed a plea filed by a BJP leader seeking prosecution of AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj for allegedly making defamatory remarks against him in September 2018. Special judge Vishal Gogne turned down the petition filed by BJP's Suraj Bhan Chauhan against a trial court's February 19 order which rejected his complaint against Bharadwaj, citing delay in filing it. The limitation period was found to have lapsed on March 16, 2024, the court said while noting the magisterial court had already accorded the permissible liberal construction to the limitation period. The court finds the conduct of Chauhan to have been «whimsical and opportunistic» in filing the belated defamation complaint, regarding the press conference of the year 2018, only in December 2024 against respondent Saurabh Bharadwaj on the cusp of the Delhi Assembly elections in early 2025, the judge said. Chauhan had alleged that Bharadwaj defamed him in 2018 by falsely claiming at a press conference that an FIR had been lodged against him. He claimed before the special judge that he had «inadvertently» filed the complaint against Bharadwaj, a former Delhi minister, before Saket court instead of Rouse Avenue Court which came up for hearing in September 2020.
