Elon Musk knows something we don’t about the end of civilisation—And it’s keeping him up at night
Elon Musk has a lot on his mind. In a candid interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, the tech billionaire and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) warned about the dangers of a declining birth rate and America’s role in holding up Western civilisation. He described the issue as existential, warning that without intervention, civilization could collapse.

When asked what keeps him up at night, Musk didn’t hesitate. “There’s a lot of things that I suppose I worry about. And some of these things will seem esoteric to people,” he admitted. One issue at the top of his list? The plummeting birth rates in the U.S. and beyond.
“Unless that changes, civilisation will disappear,” he cautioned. “Nothing seems to be turning that around. Humanity is dying.”
He pointed out that America recently recorded its lowest birth rate ever. South Korea, he noted, is even worse off, with births at just a third of replacement levels. “That means in three generations, Korea will be 3 or 4 percent of its current size,” Musk explained.
His personal stake in the matter is evident. Musk has fathered 14 children with multiple women, including musician Grimes, Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, and conservative journalist Ashley St. Clair.

Beyond birth rates, Musk’s concerns extend to America’s broader trajectory. He believes the country is the foundation of Western civilisation, and if it crumbles, everything else will follow.
“America is the central column that holds up all of Western civilisation… If that column fails, it’s all over. You can’t run off to New Zealand or some other place. It’s over. So either we strengthen that column
