CBSE considers proposal to allow use of calculator in class 12 accounts exams
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is looking into the proposal to allow basic non-programmable calculators in class 12 accountancy exams to easy cognitive load associated with lengthy calculations, according to board officials. A panel will be formed to come up with guidelines on their use to maintain uniformity, they added. Currently, CBSE allows students with special needs in both classes 10 and 12 to use calculators. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISEC) allowed class 12 students to use calculators in 2021.

Job hiring or hunger games? Candidates push back against lengthy, unfair interview processes
The original poster (OP) detailed their experience of being approached for a senior role that seemed promising in terms of pay and benefits. However, after submitting their CV, they were informed of an extensive three-stage interview process. The first round included a video call with the hiring manager and HR to discuss past experience—something the OP found reasonable. The second round required an in-person panel interview with engineers, where they would be expected to answer technical questions on the spot and present on a topic of their choice. Finally, the third round demanded participation in a group project with other candidates, technical aptitude tests, and another round of interviews with senior management and HR. At that point, the OP withdrew their application, stating, «I’m sorry, I’m not participating in normalizing this ridiculous HR-driven process for positions all the way up the ladder.» They later found another role with a much simpler hiring process—a single in-person interview with technical questions—which turned out to be «the best job I’ve ever had, on more money than the initial role.»

Gold price prediction for April: Gold rate may go up further next month, claim experts
Gold price could hit the $3,100-mark in coming days even though rates were steady on Monday, underpinned by a weaker U.S. dollar and uncertainty around U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff plans, as per a report. Spot gold was at $3,024.39 an ounce at 1000 (GMT). U.S. gold futures edged 0.3 per cent higher to $3,029.50. «A modestly weaker dollar is probably giving gold a little bit of a tailwind at present,» said Ross Norman, an independent analyst, Reuters reported. The U.S. dollar was down 0.1 per cent against a basket of other major currencies on Monday, but around 3.4 per cent lower so far this month, making gold less expensive for foreign buyers. All Eyes on April 2 Announcements by Donald Trump U.S. President Donald Trump hinted on Friday that there would be some flexibility regarding reciprocal tariffs that are set to take effect on April 2 and are expected to drive inflation and hinder economic growth.

India’s spot oil needs wane as Russia flows are set to rebound
The Asian nation’s state-owned processors are on track to secure more than three dozen cargoes that will load next month, according to people familiar with the matter. Combined with deliveries for private refiners Reliance Industries Ltd. and Nayara Energy Ltd., there may be more than 60 shipments of discounted Russian crude in April, or almost 52 million barrels, the people said, declining to be identified as the transactions aren’t public. Flows between the nations had slipped in recent months as a transition period for tighter US sanctions on shipments from Russia came to an end, forcing the state-owned refiners to issue a slew of spot tenders that saw them buy more expensive oil from alternative producers. Traders have now lined up enough “clean” Russian cargoes — meaning shipments untouched by any US-sanctioned entity — for April to help the companies meet most of their spot demand and ease concerns over future supplies, the people said.

Man charged with killing child with hammer named, case to start in May 2025
Charles Wharton, accused of killing an 8-year-old boy in New Zealand's Hamilton with a hammer, grievously injuring his father ands one more person, took the legal route to ensure that he was not revealed by the media during the reporting about the case. But now he has given up and has been officially named as the person charged with the murder. The 37-year-old was charged in 2024 for the brutal murder of 8-year-old Zahquiel Taipeti while he was sleeping. He then attacked Zahquiel's father Mitikiro Woods, and another man in the Anthony Cres, Hamilton house. Woods and the other man were seriously injured in the attack but survived. According to the local residents and police, Wharton had on September 1, 2025, been trespassing on the properties in the area. His suspicious activities led to the residents calling in the police who took him to Anthony Cres in Hamilton's Bader in the evening. Zahquiel Taipeti resided ion the same area along with his family and Wharton is accused of killing Zahquiel and injuring Woods in their sleep. The father-son duo was sleeping in the same room when attacked. The other person who was attacked was living in a nearby room. The victims had come back from a tangi (traditional funeral rite practised by New Zealand's Māori population) in Manawatū.

Why the success of egg storage also led to shortages
Chicago Mercantile Exchange is a leading global financial institution. It trades commodities, currencies and exotic products like weather derivatives. But it started in 1898 as the Chicago Butter and Egg Board, a more downmarket operation from the grain traders who dominated the market. Eggs were disregarded by leading traders because they came not from the farmers who raised grain and cattle on Midwestern farms, but from their wives who tended to backyard flocks of chickens. “Local merchants often accepted the eggs as a courtesy to the farm wives; they then packed the eggs off to Chicago,” writes Kara Newman in The Secret Financial Life of Food. A ‘nest egg’ was a dummy egg placed in nests to encourage hens to lay, but it also came to mean the private funds that women built through this trade. The US is currently reeling under egg shortages, primarily caused by flocks being culled due to avian flu. At one point, the price crossed $8 per dozen, more than double their usual price. The US is desperately searching for eggs abroad, much to the amusement of countries like Canada, which are suffering under President Trump’s tariffs. Trump recently posted a link to an article with the ill-tempered headline: ‘Shut Up About Egg Prices – Trump is Saving Consumers Millions’.
