This amounts to fresh evidence of deep internal differences within the group that have all along clouded its prospects of putting up a credible joint front against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which rules the country at the Centre. The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up State Bank of India (SBI) for its delay in disclosing details related to electoral bonds. Tata Motors, which harnessed increasing demand for electric cars to reclaim automotive market-capitalization leadership in India, has urged New Delhi to extend incentives on electric taxis for another three years and also include personal cars in the government's flagship demand support program FAME, citing global EV leader China's example. Tata Motors, which has seen a near-six-fold surge in its stock price through the past five years that helped establish its domestic EV leadership credentials, wants New Delhi to help replicate an enabling environment similar to that in Beijing that has pledged to support adoption of EVs until unit sales touched at least a fifth of all new cars sold. «Globally, major economies (China, Germany) have continued to support EV adoption with demand subsidies until achievement of at least 20% EV adoption,» Shailesh Chandra, managing director, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said in the letter dated March 9. «The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry had also recommended in 2023 that the Government broaden the scope and extend FAME by at least three more years to make the scheme more inclusive,» Chandra said in the letter, a copy of which has been seen by ET.

Supreme Court said on Monday it would hear in May the plea filed by Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra challenging her expulsion from the Lok Sabha. Her plea came up for hearing before a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta. The counsel appearing for Moitra said they don't intend to file a rejoinder to the counter affidavit submitted by the secretary general of the Lok Sabha in the matter. «List on a non-miscellaneous day in the week commencing May 6. The counsel for the petitioner (Moitra) states that they do not intend to file a rejoinder,» the bench said.

Central Board of Indirect taxes and Customs (CBIC) is planning to prepare a list of products which end up in litigation purely due to classification issues. The fitment committee is likely to look into such items where there is a minor change in composition but the tax slabs are different, creating confusion in tax liability, mostly in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, which recently attracted many tax notices. The list will be referred to the group of ministers on rate rationalisation committee when the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meets next, said people aware of the matter.

Private sector fuel retailers Jio-BP, Rosneft-backed Nayara Energy and Shell haven't yet been able to fully regain the market share they gave up in 2022 after the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war that triggered a turmoil in the global oil market and made domestic fuel sales loss making for some time. The three private sector retailers had a combined market share of 8.7% in petrol sales in February, lower than 10% in the same month of 2022, according to industry data. For diesel, their share was 9.3% as against 10.8% two years earlier. Their share, however, is up from last year's 7.4% in petrol and 4.9% in diesel. The market share for all three private companies is lower than their respective shares two years ago in both petrol and diesel. Nayara Energy leads the private players, accounting for more than half of their combined sales. Nayara also operates the largest network of petrol pumps among private retailers. It has 6,590 pumps while Jio-BP, the joint venture of Reliance Industries and BP, operates 1,700 pumps, according to the oil ministry data. Shell has just 340 fuel stations and less than 1% share in domestic sales of petrol and diesel.
