Congress leader alleges 'political use' of religious leaders by NDA in Bihar
Tariq Anwar on Sunday charged the BJP-led NDA in Bihar with making «political use» of religious leaders like Acharya Dhirendra Shastri alias Bageshwar Baba ahead of the assembly polls later this year. Anwar, who addressed a press conference in his Lok Sabha constituency of Katihar, was asked about Shastri's tour of Gopalganj where he is likely to stay till Monday. The former Union minister, in a sarcastic tone, said, «I have no problem with these religious leaders going anywhere. But, I wonder why they are made to always take the trouble of visiting poll-bound areas.» «It appears the NDA is making political use of these 'babas', since it is wary of facing the people in elections with its dismal track record on governance,» alleged Anwar.

Crypto, Crime & Corruption: A memecoin family’s checkered past puts the presidency of Argentina’s Javier Milei in trouble
crypto scandal that’s ensnared the president of one of South America’s biggest countries wasn’t the first time that members of the Davis family found themselves at the center of controversy. Long before Hayden Davis became famous for getting Argentine President Javier Milei to promote a memecoin, his father told tales of counterfeiting checks and assuming fake identities as a young man, eventually ending up in prison. Further up the family tree, the tales get even wilder: Hayden’s grandfather was murdered by followers of his great-grandfather, the head of a polygamist cult that practiced blood sacrifice. Hayden is the 28-year-old chief executive officer of Kelsier Ventures, an obscure investment firm which he runs with his brother Gideon, 25, and father Tom, 54. The company and Hayden’s memecoin Libra are at the heart of a scandal that’s rattled investors in Argentina after Milei promoted the token with the promise that it would raise money for small businesses in the nation.

AI diet helping new-age companies run lean
API.market, runs a marketplace for artificial intelligence (AI) model application programming interfaces, with 3,100 customers across the world, and makes an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of $200,000. He is also building Noveum.ai, an evaluator of large language models for enterprise use, which is currently in beta stage. Till October 2024, Agarwal was building the marketplace alone. His team has grown since—by all of two people, another co-founder and engineer, and he is now looking to hire three more engineers. He added that it is quite common for a small team of up to 20 people in an AI startup to get to $5-10 million ARR. Agarwal is part of an emerging crop of startups that are focusing on leaner teams by leveraging AI across their operations to cut costs and stay the course. Many such companies are borrowing from the playbook of Silicon Valley startups that are clocking millions in revenues with bare-bones teams. For instance, coding assistant Cursor hit a $100 million ARR with a team of 20 people.

Race against April 2 deadline: For US tariff truce, government mulls 2-pronged strategy
India is examining its import basket to finalise the list of items for which it could build a bespoke — and lower — tariff structure for the US, while it also explores areas where further levy reductions are possible through an extension of the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) approach. The Centre has discussed the minute details of preferential tariff reductions for the US through both a trade pact and on an MFN basis for sectors including agriculture and automobiles — areas that would benefit US exporters were India to reduce tariffs further. To be sure, countries can grant duty cuts to one another’s imports on a preferential basis in a free trade agreement (FTA). “There have been discussions on giving concessions on the MFN and FTA basis,” said an official, as India and the US aim to conclude the first tranche of their Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by fall this year.

ET Awards: GST rate cut, slabs review in works, says Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
Nirmala Sitharaman said India is close to taking a final call on reducing goods and services tax (GST) rates further and reviewing the levy’s slabs. The revenue neutral rate had dropped from 15.8% when GST was introduced in 2017, to 11.4% by 2023, she said at the 25th ET Awards for Corporate Excellence on Saturday. “Let me dispel any (notion) that GST has made life costlier. Item by item, I would challenge anyone to tell me if there is any one item for which tax rate has gone up after introduction of GST… So, the clue is, it will come down even further,” she told an audience that represented the best of India Inc at the stately National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai. A group of ministers on GST rationalisation has been set up under Bihar deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary.

Bill Maher roasts Taylor Swift’s love life, but is the joke getting old?
Real Time With Bill Maher, the 69-year-old comedian quipped about the pop sensation’s unexpected streak of relationship stability, saying, “This world is so upside down now. It took [President] Trump three weeks to break up with Ukraine, Mexico, and Canada. And yet, Taylor Swift has the same boyfriend for over a year.” The joke, a clear dig at Swift’s relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce, is just the latest in a long line of public figures making her love life the punchline. But at this point, are these cracks about her dating history just lazy, outdated, and—dare we say—boring?

New-age companies gear up to strengthen top deck
independent directors as they gear up to tap the public markets in the next one to two years. The credibility and strength of the top deck becomes critical for firms preparing for an initial public offering (IPO), said experts. Apart from meeting regulatory requirements, a well-picked board with experienced and independent voices as directors can help inspire confidence among prospective investors as raising public money comes with far greater transparency and accountability. Executive search firms, including Korn Ferry and Transearch, said they are seeing a minimum 25% increase in independent director mandates, and are running anywhere between three and six such searches at any given time.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said he aspires to see Araku coffee reach the status of a global brand like Starbucks in the future. While celebrating International Women's Day here, Naidu noted that Araku Coffee, grown by tribal farmers, has already gained international recognition. «One day, our Araku Coffee should emerge as another Starbucks. It should become an international brand. To achieve this, set up 100 pilot outlets,» said Naidu, addressing a large gathering of Women's Day celebrants. Today's bluds, tomorrow’s opps: How public diplomacy is reshaping global affairs
That was the reaction of many who witnessed the televised spat between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Oval Office last week. Beyond the memes and the jokes, it was the clearest sign that there is a new world order in the making. Of new friendships being forged, old ones being discarded. Some existing alliances slayed it for eight decades after World War II. But it is in the nature of relationships that things turn. The Soviet Union and the US had fought as allies against Germany, Japan and Italy up until 1945. It didn’t take long for that relationship to become salty, resulting in the Cold War.
