India's ODIssey to top of the world: Rohit’s men defeat New Zealand by four wickets to win Champions Trophy for third time
India’s bowlers stuck to their guns, attacking the stumps and keeping the batsmen honest. In turn, New Zealand’s finest seem to have got a measure not only of the conditions and opposition but of what was needed in a tournament final. At no time did New Zealand’s batting look under pressure, harried or hurried. It was as though they had mentally set themselves a target of something in the region of 250, and were planning their way there, rather than aiming for 300 and falling well short. Rachin Ravindra was a treat to watch for his 37 and Daryl Mitchell ensured that the innings was held together with 63. If New Zealand were kept on a tight leash by India’s spinners, with wickets falling just regularly enough to ensure that the game was always within grasp, Michael Bracewell, at No 7, kept New Zealand competitive with a breezy 53.

Standing by tariffs, Donald Trump brushes off market swings
Donald Trump is dismissing business concerns over the uncertainty caused by his planned tariffs on a range of American trading partners and the prospect of higher prices, and isn't ruling out the possibility of a recession this year. After imposing and then quickly pausing 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada that sent markets tumbling over concerns of a trade war, Trump said his plans for broader «reciprocal» tariffs will go into effect April 2, raising them to match what other countries assess. «April 2nd, it becomes all reciprocal,» he said in a taped interview with Fox News Channel's 'Sunday Morning Futures'. «What they charge us, we charge them.»

COP30 chair moots 10-year road map to move away from fossil fuels
COP30), is doubling down on accelerating the implementation of climate action. To this end, it has suggested setting up «additional governance structures» under the UN, «complimentary» to the existing process under UNFCCC, to follow up on commitments that have been made on climate action. Explaining the rationale for complementary governance structures under the UN, Brazil's environment minister, Marina Silva, said, «Take the NDCs (nationally determined contributions or climate plans), these are meant to be reviewed every five years. Maybe this is not enough. We may need additional pieces to make global efforts more effective». Silva said the rule book for the Paris Agreement has now been completely finalised. «We have a structured regime on which we can rely,» the minister said. «We have no choice to implement or else we will experience the unthinkable.»

Over 100 IT workers gather in Bengaluru to demand healthy work-life balance
Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees Union (KITU), more than 100 people gathered at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Sunday to advocate for a healthy work-life balance in the IT sector. Expressing disappointment over the turnout, KITU advisor Vasanthraj said that, given Bengaluru's status as a tech hub, at least 6,000 people should have participated to make their collective voice heard. «The hard reality is that IT industry captains are minting profits through the dollar exchange rate but end up squeezing workers. In the last three decades, the IT industry should have become an IT product giant. But despite moving up a few steps in the value chain, it remains a service industry,» said Vasanthraj. KITU member Ram said the protest was organised to counter recent remarks by Infosys Chairman Emeritus Narayana Murthy and L&T Chairman and Managing Director S N Subrahmanyan, who have blamed workers for the sector's failure to move up the value chain.

India vs New Zealand Highlights: India withstand tricky Kiwi challenge to clinch third Champions Trophy title
Rohit Sharma and his men overcame a fierce challenge from New Zealand on Sunday to clinch their third Champions Trophy title in style. Both India and New Zealand have tasted success in this tournament before. India's last triumph came in 2013, while they finished as runners-up to Pakistan in 2017. The Men in Blue also shared the title with Sri Lanka in 2002 after a rain-marred two-day final. New Zealand, on the other hand, won the Champions Trophy in 2000—then known as the ICC Knockout Trophy—defeating India in the final at Nairobi, Kenya. To this day, it remains the Black Caps’ only ICC limited-overs title.

Flight cancellations at Germany's Hamburg Airport affect more than 40,000 passengers after strike
Only 10 of more than 280 scheduled flights went as planned early Sunday, the airport said. Many service desks sat empty as would-be passengers lined up to seek information about the cancellations. The surprise walkout, which reportedly took place with only about a half-hour advance notice, came before a broader series of preannounced strikes across 13 airports in Germany on Monday, organized by the ver.di union.

‘Impossible trinity’ conundrum has caused a cash crunch in Asia
central banks are getting a painful refresher in economic theory. Monetary authorities in China, India and elsewhere have waged a prolonged campaign against the strong dollar, using a mix of official reserves and opaque derivatives trades to defend their currencies. But their moves have pushed up borrowing costs for local banks just when slowing economies need more liquidity. China’s overnight and seven-day repo rates surged in February, while bond investors took losses from a sharp rise in yields. Banking liquidity in India suffered its highest deficit in at least 14 years earlier this year and overnight borrowing costs jumped. Liquidity also dried up in Indonesia and Malaysia following central bank currency interventions. These moves are explained by what economists call the impossible trinity, the idea that countries can’t simultaneously control their currencies, independently set interest rates and allow capital to move freely across borders. Something will break or give way.

How will Canada's next prime minister be chosen?
WHY DOES THERE NEED TO BE A RACE? Unlike in Australia and Britain, where prime ministers are chosen by legislators and can be removed very quickly, the heads of political parties in Canada are chosen by members in special contests. Trudeau's resignation automatically triggered a leadership race. The new head of the Liberal Party will become the new prime minister.
