Five Asteroids to Fear: NASA warns of space rocks with one packing firepower of nearly 5 mn Hiroshima bombs!
Asteroids frequently pass near Earth, and while most are too small to pose any threat, some can make direct hits. Fortunately, such events often result in these asteroids burning up in the atmosphere. The last significant asteroid impact occurred 66 million years ago, leading to the extinction of most dinosaurs. Though the chances of another similar event are low, NASA and other space agencies are actively monitoring potential threats. They are also developing strategies for deflection in case a dangerous asteroid is on a collision course.

Why Goldman, Morgan Stanley are betting on SpiceJet despite all its troubles
SpiceJet has received a near-term tailwind with institutional investors lapping up its Rs 3,000 crore share sale. Foreign investors who have been allotted shares under the airline's Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) include big names such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Societe Generale, Nomura Singapore and Discovery Global Opportunity (Mauritius) Ltd. The QIP was oversubscribed with 87 Indian and international institutions subscribing to the issue. In addition to the Rs 3,000 crore raised through its QIP, SpiceJet will also receive an additional Rs 736 crore from the previous funding round, further boosting its financial stability and growth plans. Why are big investors betting on recovery of SpiceJet despite the airline struggling with a wide range of issues from aircraft leases to staff salaries? Investors not only hope that SpiceJet is resilient enough to survive its manifold crisis but also consider the growth prospects of India's aviation sector. Congress on course to sweep polls, set to repeat 2005 performance: Randeep Singh Surjewala
Randeep Singh Surjewala has said that the BJP is suffering from a complete «bankruptcy of leadership» in Haryana, and asserted that his party is set to repeat its 2005 performance when it bagged 67 of the 90 seats in the state. The Congress MP said even issues have become blurred in the polls this time and the people want to oust the BJP. «They (BJP) have not permitted any leader to be developed and this is a pan-India problem,» the Congress general secretary, who is also a former Haryana minister, told PTI. «They are killing established leadership of the BJP. What they have done in Rajasthan, got reflected in the Lok Sabha results, that people don't accept novices,» he said.

Jammu & Kashmir polls: Engineer Rashid claims Omar Abdullah, Sajad Lone ganged up to defeat Awami Ittehad Party
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and People's Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone had ganged up in a bid to defeat his Awami Ittehad Party candidates. The maverick politician, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, defeated both Abdullah and Lone in the Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla earlier this year. «Just a few days ago, Omar sahib was branding everyone, including Sajad Lone and Altaf Bukhari's Apni Party, as the BJP's B teams. I have irrefutable evidence that Omar Abdullah and Sajad Lone have ganged up to defeat Engineer Rashid in north Kashmir and elsewhere. Can Omar Abdullah now tell us which is the BJP's B team?» Rashid told PTI. He also claimed the Farooq Abdullah-led party's silence over BJP leader Tarun Chugh's claims against National Conference leaders lent credence to his claim.

Air India's Transformation: A lot is going on to make it a world-class airline
Air India, now owned by the Tata Group, has embarked on a transformative five-year plan and a lot is going on. The airline is making billions-worth of investments in new aircraft, upgrading IT systems, revamping internal processes, and enhancing the consumer experience to shed its legacy image, ToI reported. “To transform an organisation which needed large investments both in terms of the infrastructure, people, processes, in every possible area and to build it up and bring it to this level and to continue to work towards building it to a world class airline is a tough and interesting journey… but we are moving at a very good pace,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India. After Tata Group acquired Air India in 2022, the first year focused on fixing the basics to meet customer and industry expectations. Dogra said, «The idea is to transform it from a legacy organisation which has had several issues into a new world class airline. A lot of focus was put on training programmes, recruitment.»
