Taiwan reports increased Chinese military activity near its territory
Taipei [Taiwan], September 2 (ANI): Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) has said that 18 Chinese military aircraft, eight naval vessels and two official ships were detected operating around Taiwan from 6 am (local time) on Sunday to 6 am (local time) on Monday. Among them, 15 of the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan's northern, southwestern, and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). If China wants Taiwan it should also take back land from Russia, President Lai Ching-te says
Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said in an interview with Taiwanese media. China views democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory and has never renounced the use of force to bring the island under its control. Taiwan's government rejects those claims, saying only the island's people can decide their future. Speaking in an interview with a Taiwanese television station broadcast late on Sunday, Lai, who China calls a «separatist», brought up the 1858 Treaty of Aigun in which China signed over a vast tract of land in what is now Russia's far east to the Russian empire, forming much of the present day border along the Amur River.

Which sectors of the market still offer value for investors? Abhay Agarwal answers
«They are still at about 20 times FY26 earnings at the index level. So, I would not call it that this valuation is so far stretched that there are no opportunities. At the same time, are the valuations at a level that you can say with a lot of certainty that anything you buy will make you money? I do not think we are there also,» says Abhay Agarwal, Piper Serica. Given the fact that we are hitting fresh record high now on the markets once again, do you believe that the market valuations is now looking a bit stretched or do you think that it is not that expensive yet? Abhay Agarwal: If we look at by traditional standards, the valuations are definitely on the higher side. I do not think the valuations or the index, when we look at valuation, we typically talk about the valuation of the Nifty Index stocks, the 50 stocks. So, they are not in the exorbitant range yet.

View: In India, some mergers and acquisitions are more equal than others
short seller and the Indian market regulator, a completely different controversy is brewing. It involves the country’s second-most-valuable bank, and its plan to swallow up its securities affiliate. Some shareholders of the brokerage firm, upset over the terms of the buyout, want to know how the Securities and Exchange Board of India allowed the delisting of ICICI Securities Ltd., waiving the regulator’s own rules for compensating minority investors. A company-law tribunal in Mumbai quashed their challenge on Aug. 21 and allowed the deal to proceed. But that isn’t the end of the matter. There is a separate class-action suit before another tribunal in New Delhi. This dispute is also being heard by a higher court in Mumbai, the country’s commercial capital. The Indian regulator is battling bigger trouble elsewhere. In an Aug. 10 note, Hindenburg Research drew attention to SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch’s past personal investments, and her ownership of a consulting outfit, to question the watchdog’s objectivity in probing the Adani Group, the target of the short seller’s original January 2023 report. The infrastructure conglomerate, which suffered a $150 billion drop in its market value in the aftermath of the publication, has strenuously denied the short seller’s claims of stock-price manipulation. The group’s shares have recouped most of their losses. Buch described the allegation of potential conflict as “character assassination” and said that she made all the appropriate disclosures and recusals.

GIFT Nifty up 25 points; here's the trading setup for today's session
«Although the market has been on a steady upward trend, momentum has been somewhat lacking, largely due to the underperformance of major banking stocks, which carry substantial weight in the benchmark. And, if we see improved participation from the banking sector, Nifty could break past the 25,500 mark and move toward a new milestone of 26,000,» said Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking.

Fund houses to ask Sebi to cut maturity time for AT-1 bonds
Mutual funds plan to request the Securities and Exchange Board of India to relax maturity norms for additional tier-1 bonds to encourage fund houses to invest in these relatively high-yielding debt instruments that banks issue to shore up equity capital. «The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has provided some leeway when it comes to the valuation norms for AT-1 bonds but the maturity requirement of 100 years for such instruments continues to be a hurdle for mutual fund investments. Talks have been ongoing between mutual funds and the regulator and a committee from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) will suggest bringing down the maturity from 100 years to closer to the call option,» a source aware of the developments said.

Bayer Leverkusen beaten in the Bundesliga for first time in 15 months by Leipzig
Bayer Leverkusen lost a Bundesliga game for the first time in 15 months when Lois Openda scored twice in a 3-2 comeback win for Leipzig on Saturday. Under coach Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen has made crucial late goals a speciality. It briefly seemed like that might happen again when the referee went to review a possible penalty in the 86th minute after Leipzig's Castello Lukeba and Leverkusen's Patrik Schick made contact. The referee decided against the spot kick and Leverkusen lost to a German opponent for the first time since May 2023 after 35 Bundesliga games unbeaten, including its entire title-winning 2023-24 season. «It's hard, it's bitter,» Alonso told German broadcaster Sky. «I don't think we deserved to lose today.»

Poco Pad 5G review: Budget-friendly 5G tablet for everyday use
₹1,000 cheaper than its Redmi counterpart, while packing the same specs.Inside the Poco Pad 5G's yellow and black box, you will find the device itself, a SIM ejector tool, some paperwork, a 33W USB adapter and a Type C cable. The tablet doesn't come with a pre-installed screen protector (plastic or otherwise), and I'd strongly recommend getting one before you start using it on a daily basis. On the design front, the Poco Pad 5G has two coin-shaped cutouts on the back, one for the 8MP camera sensor and the other for the flash.
