Indian rupee ended stronger on Friday, aided by inflows spurred by the inclusion of the country's bonds into the JPMorgan emerging market debt index. The rupee closed at 83.3825 against the U.S. dollar on Friday, up nearly 0.1% from its close at 83.46 in the previous session.

NEW DELHI : The nearly three-month-long election process slowed down the construction of highways in the first two months of fiscal year 2024-25 despite the Centre front-loading capital expenditure, showed data from the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH). The highway construction fell by12% to 1,288 kilometres in April-May from 1,465km in the year-ago period, showed the data. Besides, the government awarded only one 4km road project during the two months, compared to road projects of 382 km a year ago “due to the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct", the road ministry said in an office memorandum on Friday.

₹3,220.00 on BSE after the real estate developer reported its highest ever pre-sales in FY24.Realty major Godrej Properties reported 84% year-on-year (YoY) growth in its FY24 pre-sales to record ₹22,500 crore, becoming the largest developer in terms of bookings. The performance was mainly led by new launches, which increased by 65% in FY24, of which 70% were absorbed during the year and contributed 70% to total pre-sales.

According to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), quarterly GDP rose by 0.7% in the first quarter of 2024 (January to March), up from an initial estimate of 0.6%. The rise was mainly driven by the services sector, which grew by 0.8% in the quarter, followed by production, which recorded 0.6% growth in the first three months of 2024. The construction sector, however, fell by 0.6%. Overall, GDP estimates showed a 0.3% increase in quarterly figures compared to the same quarter a year ago. Climate finance will be at the centre of the UN climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the world will reach the deadline to agree on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) — the new amount developed nations must mobilise every year starting in 2025 to support climate action in developing countries. «Temperature rise is a global problem. IPCC reports clearly say the increase in carbon emissions is driving average global temperatures up. Countries have prepared their Nationally Determined Contributions. India has achieved its climate targets, be it in the renewable energy sector or reducing carbon emissions,» Yadav said at the India Climate Summit. «Developed countries are required to provide finance and technological support to developing countries if we need equal growth in the world. Unfortunately, this could not happen but the New Collective Quantified Goal will be the central point of the COP29 in Baku. Countries historically responsible for maximum carbon emissions should come forward,» he said.

Pune police chief Amitesh Kumar had a proactive role in the investigation into the Porsche crash and there was nothing to suggest that action should be taken against him. Fadnavis made the assertions during a debate on the high-profile case raised through a calling attention notice. During the debate, Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar demanded the Pune police commissioner's resignation. Conceding that there are issues of "use of money to buy justice", Fadnavis said, «This should not be allowed. We have to see how laws can be strengthened further. The issue is serious but there is no need to defame Pune police. They have taken action in the case. Erring police officials have been punished.» He said Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had a proactive role in the probe into the accident and nothing has come up to suggest that he should face action.
