A California utility is backing the largest new geothermal power development in the US — 400 megawatts of clean electricity from the Earth's heat — enough for some 4,00,000 homes. Southern California Edison will purchase the electricity from Fervo Energy, a Houston-based geothermal company, Fervo announced. The company is drilling up to 125 wells in southwest Utah.

Amitabh Bachchan has purchased three more office properties spread across three floors in a commercial project in Oshiwara locality of Mumbai’s western suburb Andheri for nearly Rs 60 crore. If the valuation effect were excluded, external debt would have increased by $48.4 billion instead of $ 39.7 billion. Despite the rise, the country's external debt to GDP ratio declined to 18.7 per cent at end-March 2024 from 19 per cent at the end of March 2023. The ratio comprises both government and non-government Debt. As per the data provided by the central bank, the government's external debt stood at 4.2 per cent of GDP while the non-government sector's external debt was placed at 14.5 per cent. «US dollar-denominated debt remained the largest component of India’s external debt, with a share of 53.8 per cent at end-March 2024, followed by debt denominated in the Indian rupee (31.5 per cent), yen (5.8 per cent), SDR (5.4 per cent), and euro (2.8 per cent),» said country's central bank in the statement.

Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal from the Tata Sons to build a 'museum of temples' in Ayodhya at a cost of Rs 650 crore. Sharing details about the decision, Tourism Minister Jaivir Singh said the tourism department would provide the company land for the international-level museum on a 90-year lease for a token money of Re 1. «Tata Sons had proposed the project through the Central government, offering to build the museum at a cost of Rs 650 crore under its corporate social responsibility fund,» Singh said at a press meet here after the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The cabinet also okayed the company's proposal for other development works in the temple town for additional Rs 100 crore, he added.

BENGALURU:The Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA) has sought a review of the Competition Commission of India's (CCI's) definition of control over companies by private equity (PE) funds in a meeting with the Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman ahead of the Budget 2024-25.“When PE funds invest in companies, they have some rights to protect themselves that can be viewed as a control position. So, the question was if there can be an exemption for PE funds," Srini Sriniwasan, vice-chairperson of the industry body for alternative assests, told Mint in an interview on Tuesday.Besides, the IVCA discussed measures to boost domestic capital in alternative investment funds (AIFs) to finance infrastructure, credit, startups and growth companies in the pre-budget consultation meeting on 20 June.The finance minister is expected to present the budget by July end.Sriniwasan, who is also the managing director of Kotak Alternate Asset Managers Ltd, asked for more clarity on the definition of what constitutes a PE investor.

BRUSSELS : The European Union charged Microsoft with antitrust violations related to the company’s bundling of its Teams collaboration tool with Office 365 and Microsoft 365. The European Commission, the bloc’s antitrust enforcer, said Tuesday it has informed Microsoft of its preliminary view that the company broke antitrust rules by tying Teams to popular productivity offerings that include Microsoft Word and Excel.
