Last-minute sanctions on Russia to help Ukraine, says Biden
Joe Biden said Friday. Ten days before passing on the baton to Donald Trump, the Biden Administration on Friday slapped sanctions on scores of companies and entities that were helping Russia in its export of energy, in particular gas. Two of those companies were from India. «The sanctions are imposed today because they will have a profound effect on the growth of the Russian economy and make it more difficult for Putin to conduct his wars. »It is probable that gas prices could increase as much as USD 0.03 to USD 0.04 a gallon, but that's going to have a more profound impact on Russia's ability to continue to act in the way it's acting in the conduct of war," Biden said in response to a question.

Steve Bannon comes down heavily on George W. Bush for not shaking Donald Trump's hand at Jimmy Carter's funeral and rants that Bush is the second-worst president in U.S history
US President- elect Donald Trump pretty recently criticized former US President George W. Bush for not shaking Donald Trump's hand during former US President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, reported Daily Beast. According to Daily Beast, on his War Room podcast, Steve Bannon labeled former US President George W. Bush as ‘the worst president in the history of the country’ being second only to James Buchanan and actually expressed severe disdain for ‘Bush-related’ individuals while calling them ‘bitter’ and eventually lacking class. Steve Bannon also recounted how that how former US president George W. Bush walked past US President- elect Donald Trump without even an acknowledgment and then instead greeting former US President Barack Obama which he actually interpreted as an attempt to humiliate Donald Trump, asserted Daily Beast. Adding onto that, he also noted that while Donald Trump reportedly does not care about the snub, Steve Bannon found it eventually indicative of a broader disrespect from the George W. Bush camp.

Biden levies new sanctions against Russian energy sector, but it's up to Trump whether to keep them
Biden's administration announced on Friday that it's expanding sanctions against Russia's critically important energy sector, unveiling a new effort to inflict pain on Moscow for its nearly 3-year-old war in Ukraine as President-elect Donald Trump gets set to return to office vowing to quickly end the conflict. The outgoing Democratic administration billed the new sanctions as the most significant to date against Moscow's oil and liquefied natural gas sectors, the driver of Russia's economy. Officials said the sanctions, which punish entities that do business with the Russians, have the potential to cost the Russian economy upward of billions of dollars per month. More than 180 oil-carrying vessels that are suspected to be part of a shadow fleet utilised by the Kremlin to evade oil sanctions as well as traders, oil field service firms and Russian energy officials are also targeted by the new sanctions.

Gold price: Gold rate to surge due to Donald Trump's Inauguration?
Gold prices scaled a four-week peak on Friday and were set for their best week in seven, driven by safe-haven demand amid uncertainty over what policies U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will pursue, while markets awaited jobs data for clues on the trajectory of U.S. interest rates, as per a report. Spot gold climbed 0.4 per cent to $2,679.65 per ounce, as of 1250 (GMT) after hitting its highest level since December 13 earlier in the session. Prices have risen by more than 1 per cent this week. U.S. gold futures rose 0.6 per cent to $2,707.00, Reuters reported. The most bullish outcome for gold is the narrative of ballooning fiscal deficits and unsustainable debt weighing on the U.S. dollar in the longer term and causing doubts about its role as the world’s reserve currency, said Carsten Menke, analyst at Julius Baer, according to Reuters report.

Americans have dimmer view of Biden than they did of Trump or Obama as term ends, AP-NORC poll finds
Joe Biden prepares to leave office, Americans have a dimmer view of his presidency than they did at the end of Donald Trump's first term or Barack Obama's second, a new poll finds. Around one-quarter of U.S. adults said Biden was a «good» or «great» president, with less than 1 in 10 saying he was «great,» according to the survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. It's a stark illustration of how tarnished Biden's legacy has become, with many members of his own party seeing his Democratic presidency as merely mediocre. About one-third described Trump as «good» or «great» on the eve of the Republican's departure from the White House in 2021, according to AP-NORC polling, including about 2 in 10 who said he was «great» — even after he helped sparked a deadly insurrection that saw a mob of his supporters overrun the U.S. Capitol. Americans were similarly likely to describe both Biden and Trump as «poor» or «terrible» — about half said this characterized each president's time in office — but about 3 in 10 said Biden was «average,» while less than 2 in 10 said this about Trump.

Russia says it welcomes Trump's readiness to solve problems through dialogue
Trump to resolve problems through dialogue, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday, reaffirming Russian President Vladimir Putin's readiness for talks with Trump.
