India uniquely positioned to capture 35-50% of global CIH market: BCG
innovation hubs (CIHs) have an expanded portfolio of services today and India has an opportunity to capture a big share of this market, says Boston Consulting Group. CIHs are centres that provide access to high quality talent and advanced technology to help businesses grow by playing a prominent leadership role in formulating and driving business priorities across the enterprise. In its latest white paper, BCG says CIHs’ portfolio today includes front-end customer facing business operations and capabilities in emerging technology. Sreyssha George, Managing Director & Partner at BCG, says that global CIH spend is currently estimated at $265-290 billion and is expected to grow to $390-420 billion by 2027 (10% CAGR). “India is uniquely positioned to capture a 35-50% market, given its rich and scaled talent pool. Also, these hubs will bring significant innovation and talent upskilling to the Indian ecosystem,” she states.

Delhi Pollution: Coal plants' target miss to add to the deadly smog
About three-quarters of the coal-fired generators near major cities are set to miss a year-end deadline to install equipment to curb sulfur-dioxide emissions, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified as the information isn’t public. If fully implemented, such systems could cut India’s emissions of the pollutant by almost two-thirds, benefiting air quality and public health, according to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air. Sulfur dioxide breaks down into sulfates, which can account for almost a third of the particulate mass that forms India’s smog, according to Manoj Kumar, an analyst at the Finland-based research group.

Indrajit Agarwal explains why larger cement players will continue to gain market share
Indrajit Agarwal, Senior Research Analyst, CLSA, says there are three or four levers of cost savings. One is higher renewable power usage, second is lower lead distances, third is improving the mix of cement, etc. All those things will lead to profitability improvement. In an environment where the top few players are focusing on both cost savings and market share gain, pricing would be very difficult to come by and that is where larger cement players with better volume growth visibility and cost saving outlook are likely to fare much better than the smaller or regional players. What have been your key takeaways for materials as a sector? Indrajit Agarwal: If you look at the sector, what has happened in the past few years and also year to date, we have been in the midst of a structural upcycle driven by all the levers, be it infrastructure, housing, property market, whatever you call it. However, the last six months effectively has been a perfect storm. We have had a confluence of three events which has led to a significant weakness in the demand environment.
