It’s not exactly how MANU BHAKER wanted to enjoy her Olympic success — two bronze medals. After a hectic schedule, she was looking forward to ‘some time off’ where she would put her feet up and just relax. Instead, she has been on a whirlwind tour of media houses, photo shoots, corporate events, podcasts studios etc. But, like she handles all the tricky situations at the shooting range, she is acing this phase of her life too. ET catches up with Bhaker to talk about her life after the Olympic success, her memories of pressure moments just before she won the medals and more. Excerpts What has changed around you since winning the Olympic medals? I have been attending a lot of events since then. Which is okay because I enjoy everything. It was pre-decided that I would take a long break after the Olympics. But because of these events, I have been travelling a lot. I had thought I would get some time off and I would sleep, have rest, and stay at home. But I haven’t got time to do all that. I am not complaining (laughs). I am enjoying this phase also.

Puja Khedkar from Indian Administrative Service with immediate effect, reported PTI quoting official sources. Khedkar has been accused of cheating and wrongly availing Other Backward Classes (OBC) and disability quota benefits to ensure her selection in the service. She has denied all allegations. The central government, vide order dated September 6, 2024, discharged Khedkar from the Indian Administrative Service under Rule 12 of IAS (Probation) Rules, 1954, with immediate effect, the sources said. The rules allow the central government to discharge probationers from service if they fail «to pass the re-examination...» or «if the central government is satisfied that the probationer was ineligible for recruitment to the Service or is unsuitable for being a member of the Service», among others.

Around the same time Maharashtra cabinet panel approved a $10-billion (₹83,947 crore) investment proposal by a joint venture between Israel's Tower Semiconductor and Adani Group to set up a semiconductor chip manufacturing unit at Taloja. A few days earlier, the Union Cabinet had approved setting up of an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat by Kaynes Semicon with a Rs. 3,307 crore investment. The capacity of this unit will be 63 lakh chips per day. Now, ET has reported that the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM) is likely to receive a second budgetary allocation of up to $ 10 billion ISM, a division within the Digital India Corporation tasked with furthering the country’s semiconductor manufacturing, packaging, and design capabilities was first established in 2022 with a budgetary allocation of $10 billion. The government will have to seek fresh funding under the ISM as it has almost exhausted the funds in the first phase which saw approvals of $11 billion, an official has told ET. A three-year survey was undertaken in collaboration with a friendly country to verify the presence of the oil and gas reserves, DawnNewsTV quoted a senior security official as saying on Friday. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh. In the PSU banking space, what is the gap between deposits and loan growth and the peaking of profitability? A Goldman Sachs note has downgraded SBI to sell and slashed its target price. What is your view on the PSU banks? Ashi Anand: Banking as a space has been underperforming and the core reason behind the underperformance has been that it has been tough to raise deposits over the two to three quarters. And because of the struggle to raise deposits, advance growth has also slowed down. This has led to some near-term pressure. Because of that, growth is slightly lower than expected and there is some amount on NIMs.
