Venturi Partners looks at launching India-focused fund for family offices
private-equity firm Venturi Partners is considering raising a $75-100 million fund in India to invest in local consumer-focused growth-stage companies, managing director Rishika Chandan said in an interview. The fund, likely to be launched later this year, will be pooled from top family offices in India, Chandan added.“The intention is to give access to Indian families that want to be part of this platform and get access to growth-stage consumer companies because most funds in India [invest mainly in] early-stage [companies]," Chandan said.According to her, there are several India-focused generalist funds investing in growth-stage consumer companies but not many that cater exclusively to families.

Gujarat HC takes suo motu cognizance of Rajkot game zone fire, calls it man-made disaster
High Court on Sunday took suo motu cognizance of the fire incident at a game zone in Rajkot which left 27 persons dead and said it was prima facie a "man-made disaster". Such gaming zones and recreational facilities have come up without the necessary approvals from competent authorities, the bench of Justices Biren Vaishnav and Devan Desai observed. The bench directed advocates of the Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot municipal corporations to appear before it on Monday with instructions as to under what provisions of law the authorities led these units to be set up or continue to operate under their jurisdiction. Four children under the age of 12 were among the 27 persons killed and three others injured in the massive fire that swept through the game zone in Rajkot teeming with people enjoying a summer vacation outing on Saturday evening, as per the officials.

The spotlight is on Gambhir again, now as a mentor for KKR, which is one step away from winning their third title. Gambhir is also a strong candidate for the Indian head coach position. Home-grown feasts: How Goans once raised pigs & prepared them for festivals
Goa and pigs have long been closely linked. The Portuguese probably didn’t introduce them, given pork eating traditions in western India, in places like Mangalore and Coorg. But they would have encouraged their rearing, from familiarity with salt pork which fuelled their long sea voyages. There was also, perhaps, the use that the Inquisition made of pork, to identify Iberian Jews who claimed to have become Christians, but secretly maintained Judaic habits, particularly a revulsion from pork. 'Dominic’s Goa', an entertaining memoir by Domnic Fernandes, has a chapter on women who would raise a few pigs at home, feeding them on kitchen wastes and going to the houses that didn’t keep pigs to collect their waste as well. This was mixed with easily available paddy husk, coconut cake (left after oil pressing) and the water from cooking rice. “Pigs were sort of wet garbage-cleaners,” he writes.

It’s three steps forward and two steps back for FII flows in Indian, Asian markets, says Manishi Raychaudhuri
Manishi Raychaudhuri, Veteran Investor In Asian Equities, says for global investors’ focus to come back sustainably in emerging markets, the rate narrative and the US dollar narrative has to change. Till then, we would possibly see this three steps forward and two steps back as far as the FII flows into India and other Asian markets are concerned. There are enough opportunities in India in sectors like capital goods, industrials and power which hitherto had not performed and some FIIsfund managers have moved into midcaps and even smallcap spaces. There was a weakish patch barely a week or 10 days ago when the market corrected from 23,000 to 21,800 odd. At that time, a narrative got built that China and Hong Kong markets have started to look very attractive versus India, so some money went there. But right now, we are back at life highs. Can India afford to do well despite some flows going to China? Manishi Raychaudhuri: I would think so.

Not booking any profits now; more money coming in which have to be put to work: Mark Mobius
Mark Mobius, Chairman, Mobius Emerging Opportunities Fund, says that there are lots of steam left in the global market, and we are seeing a lot more interest in equities globally, particularly in the US, and that helps India as well because if people are making a lot of money in the US, they want to diversify globally. They want to put their eggs in more baskets. And one of the most important baskets now is India. Mobius further says that India is a huge market and there are lots of opportunities for global investors. They are going to take advantage of that opportunity. I wanted to glean out a bit because overall we have seen that there has been a shift towards China as well because the valuations there were fairly comfortable. For you, I see that it is still one of the least preferred countries in terms of your geographical portfolio breakdown. What is the thesis there? Are you looking at perhaps increasing the weights in China and even the US for that matter is fairly underweight at just 9%? Mark Mobius: Yes, we are looking at China again now and you have seen that the Hong Kong market has had a pretty good recovery.

Sudip Bandyopadhyay on strategies to navigate Nifty's pre-election volatility

So, we have to brace for that,” says Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Group Chairman, Inditrade Capital. Edited excerpts: ET Now: Help us understand what next for the markets because after touching this record high, now the question that naturally pops up in all investors' minds is, what next? What is EMOM and why should you add it to your fitness routine?
What is EMOM training? How to do it and why you should, adds that “you can customise your EMOM workout for your specific experience level, goals, and abilities. Because you’ll be minimising your rest periods, EMOMs are designed to make you stronger and majorly boost your endurance." This means that by tweaking the number of minutes and the intensity of the exercise and loads, you can also determine whether you are doing a cardio-based EMOM, or something to build strength and muscle. A tip would be to choose exercises for which you have a sound technique.
