Head constable hacked to death in Sukma, Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh's Naxal-hit Sukma district, an official said on Monday. The incident took place on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday in Gadiras village when the deceased, identified as head constable Sodi Laxman, had gone to visit a fair there, the official said. Unidentified persons attacked him with sharp-edged weapons on his neck. He died on the spot, the official said. After being alerted, a team from Gadiras police station rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem, he said.

Coal output increases 10% in May
coal production rose by 10.15% to 83.91 million tonnes (MT) in May compared to 76.18 MT in the year-ago period. Coal production by state-owned CIL rose by 7.46% to 64.40 MT in May compared to 59.93 MT in the year-ago period, according to the Coal Ministry's provisional data. Coal India Ltd (CIL) accounts for over 80% of domestic coal output. «Additionally, coal production by captive and other entities in May 2024 stood at 13.78 MT (provisional), reflecting a growth of 32.76% from the previous year, which was 10.38 MT,» the ministry said in a statement.

Major ports cargo traffic rises over 3% to 72.04 million trillion in May
Cargo traffic across 12 major ports in the country increased by 3.75 per cent year-on-year in May to 72.04 million tones (MT) from 69.43 MT handled in the corresponding month of 2023 with nine such ports showing positive growth. Visakhapatnam Port registered the maximum cargo growth in cargo handling at 22.05 per cent during the reporting month followed by Chennai Port with 9.10 per cent, Cochin Port with 7.78 per cent and Mumbai Port with 5.89 per cent, according to data released by the major ports' apex body, Indian Ports Association (IPA).

Names of Amit Shah, Kishan Reddy dropped from FIR in Hyderabad
names of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy have been dropped from an FIR, filed on a complaint relating to the alleged use of minors in a poll campaign of the saffron party here last month, police said on Monday. In the complaint to the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), TPCC vice-president G Niranjan alleged that on May 1 during a BJP rally from Laldawaza to Sudha Talkies, a few minor children were on the dais with Shah. The CEO forwarded it to the city police for a factual report, resulting in the registration of an FIR against Shah, Reddy, BJP candidate for the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat K Madhavi Latha, Legislator T Raja Singh and BJP leader T Yaman Singh. However, after due inquiry, it was found that Amit Shah and Kishan Reddy had no role in the incident, a police official said.
