According to the weather service, today will be mostly cloudy with a heatwave, a chance of dust storms or thunderstorms, and very light rain mixed with strong gusts. The maximum temperature of 46.8 degrees Celsius was recorded on Wednesday at Delhi's main meteorological station, Safdarjung. This is the highest reading in 79 years. It was June 17, 1945, and the temperature was 46.7 °C.

Allied Blenders plans Rs 1,500-crore IPO in June
Allied Blenders and Distillers, India's third-largest Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) producer, plans to enter the capital market in the second half of June to raise about ₹1,500 crore, bankers told ET. The Mumbai-based company, known for Officer's Choice and Sterling Reserve whisky, refiled its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) in January and received regulatory approval on May 10. The IPO comprises a ₹1,000-crore fresh issue and a ₹500 crore offer for sale. The company had initially filed its DRHP with the market regulator in June 2022 to raise ₹2,000 crore.

Engine Lease Finance files fresh insolvency plea against SpiceJet
Engine Lease Finance BV has filed a petition in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), seeking insolvency proceedings against SpiceJet over arrears of more than $12 million against aircraft engines it had leased to the budget airline. Engine Lease Finance is the latest of engine lessors that have approached courts accusing SpiceJet of defaulting on payments and seeking repossession of engines. The counsel cited email exchanges between the companies as proof of default. He also told the tribunal that the default amount did not fall under the Section 10 A of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. Under the section, initiation of insolvency proceedings had been suspended for defaults during the pandemic period.

Fiscal deficit may fall below revised estimate of 5.8%
fiscal deficit could come in marginally lower than the downwardly revised estimate of 5.8% of GDP on the back of robust revenues and lower subsidy outgo, officials said. Tax revenues could exceed the upwardly revised estimate of ₹26.99 lakh crore by ₹27,000 crore. «Fiscal deficit is marginally narrower than even the revised estimates — both in percentage as well as absolute terms,» a senior official told ET. FY24 fiscal deficit in absolute terms was pegged at ₹ 17.3 lakh crore. The government would announce its final accounts for FY24 on May 31. For the next financial year (FY25), the Centre has fixed the fiscal deficit target at 5.1% of the GDP.
