Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been awarded a contract by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for Operation and Maintenance of three corridors of its Phase-II: Corridor-3 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri SIPCOT-II Metro — Indigo Line), Corridor- 4 (Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass -Orange Line) and Corridor-5 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur — Red Line) including Maintenance Depots at Madhavaram, Poonamallee & Semmancheri. The term of the contract is 12 years from date of Commercial Operation date of the last stage of Phase II. An official statement said DMRC will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of three corridors consisting of 116.1 Kms and 112 stations.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the defending champions, and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), last season's runners-up, will be under pressure to turn around their fortunes when they face off in a crucial IPL encounter on Thursday. Both teams have struggled in their recent outings, with two losses in three matches, and are in urgent need of a win to stay in the hunt for the playoffs. KKR, led by Ajinkya Rahane, had initially shrugged off concerns following a heavy defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore, stating that there was no reason to panic. Donald Trump's reciprocal tariff announcement as autos are not covered in it, besides there are limited exports to the US, industry body SIAM said on Thursday. It is to be noted that automobiles are not covered in this order since they are already subject to Section 232 tariffs at 25 per cent, announced earlier in President Trump's order on March 26, 2025, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Director General, Rajesh Menon said in a statement. «We don't expect any significant impact on the Indian automobile industry since there are limited exports to the US, but we will continue to monitor the situation,» he noted. As part of reciprocal tariffs on about 60 countries to counter higher duties on American products imposed globally, the US on Wednesday announced 27 per cent reciprocal tariffs on India saying New Delhi imposes high import duties on American goods.

NHAI will develop a 121-km-long Guwahati Ring Road on build-operate-toll mode at a total cost of Rs 5,729 crore, an official statement said on Thursday. The statement further said the concession period of the contract is 30 years, including the construction period of four years. «Providing impetus to the project, the state government of Assam will bear 50 per cent of land cost, provide exemption from royalty on aggregates and state portion of GST contributing about Rs. 1,270 crore,» it said, adding that thus, the gross project cost is about Rs 7,000 crore. The Guwahati Ring Road project will have three sections which include 56 km long 4-lane Access-Controlled Northern Guwahati Bypass, widening of the existing 8 km bypass on NH 27 from four lanes to six lanes, and improvement of existing 58 km long bypass on NH 27. Notably, a 3 km long major bridge over river Brahmaputra will also be constructed as a part of the project. The Guwahati Ring Road will provide seamless connectivity to long-distance traffic plying on the East-West Corridor of NH-27, which is the gateway to North-East Region of the country. The development of the Ring Road will help to decongest Guwahati City and neighboring North- Eastern states by bypassing major traffic coming from West Bengal/Bihar to Silchar, Nagaland and Tripura.

At present, members of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), while applying for withdrawal of funds from PF accounts online, need to upload image of cheque leaf or attested photo copy of the passbook of the bank account seeded with the UAN (Universal Account Number) or PF number. The employers are also required to approve the bank account details of the applicant. The EPFO has completely dispensed with the requirement of uploading an image of a cheque leaf or attested bank passbook while filing online claims, the labour ministry said in a statement. These two steps have been done away with to ensure 'ease of living' for EPF members and 'ease of doing business' for employers. These measures will significantly streamline the process of claim settlement and reduce grievances related to claim rejections, it stated. These requirement were initially relaxed on a pilot basis for certain KYC-updated members. Since the pilot launch on May 28, 2024, the move has already benefited 1.7 crore EPF members. Following the successful pilot, EPFO has now extended this relaxation to all members, the ministry said.

«Tariffs unveiled by President Trump last night would bring a major realignment in global trade and manufacturing value chains. India has been placed somewhere in the middle of the tariff rates at 27 per cent in addition to 10 per cent baseline duties, which needs to be assessed for real impact», said ASSOCHAM President Sanjay Nayar. ''Net-net, it appears India's export competitiveness to the US market stands far less impacted on a relative basis. Yet our industry should make concerted efforts to increase export efficiency and value addition, to mitigate impact of these tarriffs,'' he said. India's robust industrial competitiveness will balance the impact of US tariffs, and GDP will see only a 0.1 per cent impact in the short term, said PHDCCI President Hemant Jain. However, in the medium term, as the policy takes full effect, this shortfall will be negated, he added.

Mumbai Police have prohibited the flying of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, and hot air balloons in the city for a month to prevent potential sabotage attempts. The ban, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, will be in effect from April 4 to May 5, officials said on Thursday.

Piramal Finance raised more than ₹2,300 crore ($265 million) through an external commercial borrowing (ECB) facility. The loan was led by Standard Chartered Bank, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and First Abu Dhabi Bank. The floating-rate loan is priced just under 9%, around 15-20 bps lower than the prevailing domestic market rate. «The facility has a 3-year tenor and is fully hedged to mitigate forex and interest rate risks,» said a banker. «Landed cost of funds is more competitive compared to domestic borrowing rates, making it an attractive financing option for Piramal Finance.» Loan has a greenshoe option, allowing it to be upsized to $300 million.

Parliament, the government brought three changes in the bill, including the one proposing that the protected monuments declared as waqf would be void. As per this amendment, all the protected monuments or protected areas cannot be declared as waqf and all those which had been declared so in the past would be nullified after the passage of this bill. For this, the amendment was done in clause 4 of the bill. The government also brought in another amendment that no land belonging to members of Scheduled Tribes, under the provisions of the fifth schedule or sixth schedule to the Constitution, can be declared as waqf. With this, there would be a bar on declaration of any land in the Scheduled or tribal area as waqf. CHANGE 3 And as per the last amendment, the government has proposed to fix a time limit of 45 days for implementation of the waqf board decisions by a district magistrate.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) on Wednesday reported a 9% year-on-year jump in its March cargo volume at 41.5 MMT led by containers and liquids & gas, the company informed exchanges on Wednesday, while claiming the feat as its highest ever. «APSEZ handles all-time high cargo volume in Mar’25; Mundra becomes the first Indian port ever to cross 200 MMT annual cargo volume,» the filing said.

State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar said panchayat elections will be held in two phases on May 2 and May 7 in Assam's 27 districts. This is the first Panchayat polls after delimitation was carried out in 2023. Kumar while talking to media persons said that the last date of filing of nomination is April 11. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on April 12. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is April 17. The counting of votes for both phases will be held simultaneously on May 11. Polling in the first phase will be held in the districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Cachar, Hailakandi and Sribhumi. In the second phase, voting will take place in Dhubri, South Salmara, Mankachar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Bajali, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup(Metro), Hojai Nagaon, Morigaon and Darrang.

Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd has bagged two projects for the redevelopment of housing societies in Mumbai and is expecting a revenue of Rs 1,200 crore. In a regulatory filing on Wednesday, Mahindra Lifespace informed that the company has been «appointed as the preferred partner for the redevelopment of two residential societies in the Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri West, Mumbai, with a project value of approximately Rs 1,200 crore. The project will be pursued under the state's cluster development scheme.
