school principal and father of a 14-year-old rape survivor have been arrested for allegedly tampering with the birth records of the girl to help the accused secure bail, police said on Sunday. The principal was arrested from Deoria on Thursday while the girl's father was caught from Behror in Rajasthan on Saturday night, Station House Officer (SHO) of Murlipura Police Station Sunil Kumar Jangir said. The girl had lodged an FIR in July alleging that her aunt had sold her to one Sandeep Yadav, a resident of Haryana, for Rs two lakh and that she was subsequently raped. The case was registered under various sections of the IPC and POCSO Act and after investigation, her aunt, Sandeep Yadav and his father Satveer Yadav were arrested and sent to judicial custody.

death toll in the building collapse here climbed to eight with rescuers pulling out three more bodies from the debris, officials said on Sunday. Twenty-eight people were injured when the three-storey building housing godowns and a motor workshop collapsed in the Transport Nagar area here on Saturday evening. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered the bodies of three people, who were identified as Raj Kishore (27), Rudra Yadav (24) and Jagrup Singh (35), during the rescue operation, Relief Commissioner G S Naveen said. The operation is still underway.

Renewable Energy (MNRE) on Saturday notified draft norms for an approved list of models and manufacturers (ALMM) for solar cells, which is proposed to be effective from April 2026, similar to that for modules which has worked like a non-tariff barrier for domestic manufacturing. The list for solar modules comprises models and manufacturers that project developers can buy equipment from. With installed capacity of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells in the country expected to increase substantially in the next two years, the government proposes to issue solar PV cells under ALMM from April 2026, according to the draft.

loan fraud case against an insolvent automotive equipment manufacturing company, the ED said Saturday. The action comes after the federal agency arrested Amtek Group promoter Arvind Dham in July. The company is under liquidation. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) booked a case against the company and its promoters under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), taking cognisance of a CBI FIR and a direction issued to it by the Supreme Court in February to probe the case. The IDBI Bank and the Bank of Maharashtra had filed a CBI complaint against the accused for «illegally diverting» bank loans and causing loss to these lenders, the ED said in a statement. The bank «fraud» is estimated to be about Rs 27,000 crore.
