Two police officers were shot during an incident in Coquitlam on Friday morning.
Their condition is unknown, but both have been sent to the hospital.
Details have not been released about the incident, but a swath of police and paramedics flooded the area behind Coquitlam City Hall around 10 a.m.
Witness Carley Hodges said she saw rifles and battering rams, in addition to a wounded Mountie.
“When we arrived we just saw a bunch of cop cars pulling up, then we noticed an officer limping. He was bleeding from a wound in his leg. He had a tourniquet on,” she told Global News.
“Someone was taken away in an ambulance. They were doing chest compressions. Someone in handcuffs in his underwear was taken away and that’s really all we saw.”
Standing with Hodges, witness Tracy Joseph added that blood covered the blankets of the person who was taken away in a stretcher while undergoing chest compressions.
The handcuffed man’s armed was also bleeding, Joseph said.
RCMP have closed Glen Drive between Pinetree Way and High Street and are asking the public to avoid the area.
Businesses, meanwhile, have been told to stay inside and not let anyone in.
Mounties are reportedly concentrating their efforts on a residential building. A tactical team and canine unit were deployed shortly after 11 a.m.
While at the Union of BC Municipalities convention on Friday, Premier David Eby described the incident as “very serious” and “critical.”
“The public is not at further risk at this time,” he added.
