Free electricity, introduction of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), enhancement of annual income limit for creamy layer in OBCs, free medical treatment of up to ₹25 lakh, monthly pension of ₹6,000 to the elderly, widows and differently-abled, legal guarantee of MSP guarantee for farmers and ₹2,000 for women are the major poll promises of the Congress in election-bound Haryana.
Congress, which has been in the opposition in Haryana for the last 10 years, unveiled its seven key guarantees and the poll slogan «Saat Vaade, Pakke Iraade» on Wednesday. Under its social security plan, the Congress guaranteed a monthly pension of Rs 6,000 for the elderly, disabled, and widows.
The party vowed to reinstate the old pension scheme, a move aimed at appealing to government employees. Congress also promised to provide 300 units of free electricity to households and free medical treatment of up to Rs 25 lakh.
For the agricultural sector, Congress pledged to introduce a legal guarantee for MSP, a longstanding demand of farmers across the country. Congress also assured voters it would conduct a caste survey and raise the income limit for the creamy layer from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Addressing the media, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, «Other than these seven guarantees, our 53-page manifesto will be explained in detail later in Chandigarh, but these promises will surely be fulfilled by us.» Voting for the 90-member assembly will take place on October 5 while the counting of votes will be done on October 8.
