Rekha Gupta took the oath as Delhi’s chief minister at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday. Along with her, BJP leaders Parvesh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Kumar Singh, and Ravinder Indraj Singh were sworn in as cabinet ministers. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries.

Parvesh Verma, a key Jat leader in Delhi politics, gained attention after defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency by 4,089 votes. Verma, a former Lok Sabha MP from West Delhi from 2014 to 2024, was considered a frontrunner for the CM post after BJP secured 48 out of 70 assembly seats.

Kapil Mishra won from Karawal Nagar, defeating AAP’s Manoj Kumar Tyagi by 23,355 votes. He had previously won the same seat in 2015 on an AAP ticket and served as water resources minister in the Kejriwal-led government before being removed. In 2020, he contested from Model Town as a BJP candidate but lost to AAP’s Akhilesh Pati Tripathi. Mishra faced criticism for alleged provocative remarks before the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots.
