Chris Morris, a former all-rounder from South Africa, was once the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. In the 2021 auction, the Rajasthan Royals won the bidding war over the Punjab Kings by selecting him with an incredible INR 16.25 crore bid.
Then in 2023 after two years his record was beaten by Sam Curran who was taken in by the Punjab Kings with INR 18.50 cr Morris said that although it will put pressure on Starc, the pacer will be able to justify it with his experience and performances. Just hours after his captain, Pat Cummins, broke the Rs 20 crore barrier when acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Starc made history by being the most expensive player in IPL history when he was purchased by KKR for an incredible Rs 24.75 crore at the Dubai auction in December of last year.
It's really good.
We have no influence on the bidding. It's fantastic that the world's greatest cricket players earn the biggest salaries when you compare their earnings to those of other sports. While this is a great accomplishment, there is more pressure now.
However, Cummins and Starc are able to withstand such pressure, which is why their purchase price was so high. Morris told ANI that they are doing incredibly well and are very popular right now.
Following his bid that broke all previous records in the 2021 season, Morris participated in 11 IPL matches. He was especially strong with the ball, taking 15 wickets during the season.
