The deadline for updating Aadhaar details for free has been extended by the Centre until June 14, 2024. Initially set for March 14, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced on Tuesday that the free online document upload facility will now be available until June 14.
UIDAI clarified that the service is exclusively accessible on the myaadhaar portal until June 14th.
To update your Aadhaar card, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to the official UIDAI website.
Step 2: Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha.
Step 3: Click on ‘send OTP’ on the linked mobile number.
Step 4: Choose ‘Update Demographics Data’.
Step 5: Select the relevant option and click on ‘Proceed’.
Step 6: Upload the required document.
Step 7: Verify your details before clicking on Submit.
You can utilize the ‘Update Request Number (URN)’ to monitor the status of the address change.
Until June 14, only the myAadhaar portal will offer free updates for Aadhaar documents. Any updates made at physical Aadhaar centers will incur a fee of ₹50.
Last year, the government announced that any operator found charging excessive fees for Aadhaar services would be suspended. Additionally, the registrar who appointed such an operator would be subjected to a penalty of ₹50,000.
In Parliament, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, conveyed that the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has mandated all Aadhaar operators to refrain from overcharging for Aadhaar services, including the update of biometric and demographic details.
