Aamir Khan's much-anticipated film 'Laal Singh Chaddha,' insights into the actor's sentiments following the movie's lacklustre performance have emerged. A recent interview with Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan's former wife, sheds light on the profound impact of the film's failure on the acclaimed actor.
Speaking to Zoom during the promotion of her upcoming film 'Laapata Ladies,' Kiran Rao disclosed that Aamir Khan was deeply affected by the underwhelming response to 'Laal Singh Chaddha.' She remarked, «It's really disheartening when you put in all the effort, and it doesn't work, which is what happened with Laal Singh Chaddha. And it definitely affected Aamir quite deeply.»
The film, which saw a theatrical release in August 2022, failed to resonate with audiences, raking in approximately Rs 60 crore at the Indian box office. Rao emphasised that 'Laal Singh Chaddha' held significant personal significance for Khan, describing it as a «dream project» that he had pursued for over a decade. «Laal Singh Chaddha had been a dream project for Aamir. He had been working on getting the rights for the script for a decade before we made it,» she elaborated.
Reflecting on the industry's inclination towards formulaic productions, Rao suggested that the fear of failure often steers filmmakers towards safer, predictable narratives. «It's a risk we take, and honestly, I think that's one of the reasons we have formulaic films,» she remarked, highlighting the prevailing trend of adhering to established genres
