Gaming and technological advancement have a well-established symbiotic relationship. At times, the constant innovation and expansion of the industry can be overwhelming, especially for many traditional gamers who still reminisce about hunching over arcade cabinets or jamming controller buttons on the Nintendo 64. In creating the Gotchiverse, however, the developers of Pixelcraft Studios’ Aavegotchi Protocol have crafted an engaging DeFi MMORPG that feels both groundbreaking and familiar.
Aavegotchi protocol is an open-source, community-owned NFT gaming protocol, enabling true asset ownership for gamers. In it, players own Aavegotchis, playable NFT avatars in the form of adorable, pixelated ghosts. These digital pets are staked with interest-bearing aTokens, increasing their value over time. In addition, players can increase the rarity of their Aavegotchi by equipping wearables, playing minigames, and participating in governance as a member of the AavegotchiDAO. Players purchase on-chain assets and reap other rewards by trading GHST, the game’s eco-governance token and base currency.
With the release of the Gotchiverse REALM on March 31 st, players will be able to use their Aavegotchis to interact with and explore a sprawling metaverse that combines sandbox and strategy elements. Players can socialize, join Guilds, participate in mini-games, farm for resources, buy and sell various NFTs, and engage in combat. All the while, gameplay is complemented by an immersive retro aesthetic with bright, 2D visuals reminiscent of 80s video game art.
Two of the three zones that constitute the Gotchiverse, the Citaadel and the Grid, will be available
