MinterEllison has hired former AGL executive and McKinsey partner Joao Segorbe as a partner in its ESG consulting practice.
New Minters partner: Joao Segorbe.
For the past four years, Segorbe – a non-lawyer – has been executive general manager of strategy and corporate development at AGL.
That has become a moveable feast of late, with Atlassian billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes stalking the company and shaking up the board in 2022.
Segorbe moved to AGL after 15 years at McKinsey, where he was head of the electrical power and natural gas practice.
Minters, Australia’s largest law firm, said Segorbe would work closely with its head of climate change and sustainability Sarah Barker. Barker was recently appointed joint chairman of the World Economic Forum’s key climate governance body, the Climate Governance Community of Experts.
CEO Virginia Briggs said Segorbe “brings 20-plus years’ experience to the firm in the energy sector”.
“He has worked in energy markets in Australia and Europe and deeply understands ESG issues in the mining, resources and renewables sectors.”
Segorbe’s comments – provided by the firm – hit all the usual PR spots.
“I am pleased to join MinterEllison and look forward to assisting institutions on their large-scale ESG-related transformation opportunities and challenges,” he says.
“ESG topics have become key issues across all sectors, with challenges emerging even faster than legislators have been developing in the field.”
