Hans Niemann has refuted allegations of using a vibrating sex toy to gain an unfair advantage during a USD 500,000 chess match last year, as reported by the BBC.
Niemann achieved a significant victory over five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen at the Sinquefield Cup held in St.
Louis, Missouri, prompting Carlsen to withdraw from the tournament and accuse Niemann of cheating.
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) initiated an investigation in September of the incident, which many consider one of the most significant scandals in chess history. Last month, Niemann and Carlsen resolved their differences, settling a USD 100 million lawsuit.
In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Niemann expressed his disappointment at being accused of cheating following his victory, stating, «It is very disheartening to be accused of cheating after that victory.» He also mentioned that he learned valuable life and chess lessons from the experience.
When asked about allegations of using anal beads for cheating, Niemann responded, «Well, your curiosity is a bit concerning, you know, maybe you're personally interested.
But I can tell you, no. Categorically, no, of course not.»
Niemann has acknowledged cheating on Chess.com when he was between 12 and 16 years old but denies any continued wrongdoing, according to AFP.
In June, a US federal judge dismissed Niemann's USD 100 million damages lawsuit related to the controversy.
