online job scam, losing Rs 11 lakh after being duped by fraudsters who claimed that he would get a job at an Oman university.
The victim reported the incident to the Cyber Cell in North East Delhi, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the matter.
The scam began in May 2024 when the man received an unsolicited email from what appeared to be a legitimate recruitment firm.
The email claimed that his qualifications perfectly matched an urgent job vacancy at a university based in Oman. Convinced by the professional tone and apparent legitimacy of the communication, the man sent his personal documents to the provided email address.
Shortly thereafter, he was informed that he had been «selected» for the position. In the weeks that followed, the victim received a series of official-looking emails, allegedly from the university, instructing him to pay various fees to proceed with the job offer.
