A lot of Bollywood directors who claim to be feminists are just empty vessels that make the most noise, without actually making a difference where it counts, feels director Anurag Kashyap. In an interview with Outlook India, the ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’ director slammed feminist directors, accusing them of hypocrisy.
In a session held on Women’s Day, the director, known for films such as ‘Dev D’, ‘Ugly’, ‘Black Friday’ etc explained that while many seemingly progressive directors are willing to talk the talk, they are not so ready to walk the walk, when it comes to social issues. He also called a lot of his contemporaries “frauds.”
“The filmmakers who seem to be feminists, socialists, revolutionaries… Let me tell you that 90% of them are frauds. They’re all posturing. After so many years of trying to put together so many independent filmmakers, I’ve realised that independent filmmakers are the worst. Because all they’re doing is pulling each other down and calling each other names. What is the difference between the so-called intelligent people and the so-called fools? The fools are united. The ‘intelligent’ people are busy pulling each other down,” he told the reporters.
The director, who was in no mood to mince words, said that when it comes to commercial directors, there are two types of people he came across — one, who was honest about their craft and admitted that they only target box-office returns and people who are opportunists who are willing to jump bandwagon with any trend. «I know most filmmakers
