Justin Trudeau's security personnel stirred up concerns among Indian intelligence agencies during the recently concluded G20 summit when they declined the offer of staying in the presidential suite, which had been prepared by the Indian security establishment in line with the summit's strict security protocols for heads of state, a TOI report stated.
The chosen accommodation for Trudeau was the Lalit Hotel in Central Delhi, where a pre-planned security setup had been put in place. This included state-of-the-art security features such as bulletproof glass reinforced with a thick layer of polycarbonate plastic, capable of withstanding even sniper bullets.
Additional security equipment had also been installed to ensure an airtight security arrangement.
Surprisingly, Trudeau's delegation opted for standard rooms instead of the presidential suite, which left Indian security officials baffled. Subsequent negotiations between Indian security personnel and the Canadian delegation ensued, with the Indian side urging the importance of adhering to established security protocols.
However, they eventually had to yield to the Canadian side's decision, as the final say rested with the visiting dignitary and his embassy.
Notably, it has come to light that the Canadians offered to pay for the presidential suite, even though they ultimately chose regular accommodations. Speculation abounds regarding Trudeau's decision, with some suggesting that it may have been influenced by his security team's concerns, possibly stemming from the strained relationship between the two nations.
The drama did not end with the summit's conclusion, as Trudeau's departure was marred by a 36-hour delay due to a reported malfunction in his aircraft.
