Apple has unveiled an exciting feature for iPhone 15 Pro users with the release of iOS 17.2 beta 2 – spatial video recording. This innovative capability is a significant step towards the highly anticipated Apple Vision Pro augmented reality headset, set to hit the market in early 2024.
With the update, iPhone 15 Pro owners can now toggle on the «Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro» option in the Settings app to unlock the potential of 3D video recording.
The process is straightforward: head to Settings > Camera > Format, select Spatial Video for Vision Pro, and voila – the iPhone is ready to capture immersive spatial videos.
According to Apple's guidelines, users are encouraged to keep their iPhones in landscape orientation for optimal results. The video is recorded at 30 frames per second in 1080p resolution, consuming approximately 130MB of storage for every minute of footage. This new feature leverages the top two cameras of the iPhone 15 Pro, providing a unique depth perspective for the recorded content.
Upon activating spatial video recording, users can easily spot the feature in the Camera app by locating the new VR goggles icon in the bottom left corner. Tapping on this icon initiates the spatial video recording mode, offering a glimpse into the future of iPhone filmmaking. However, a caveat exists: the VR icon won't appear if the camera is focused on nearby objects, showing a macro icon instead.
While the spatial videos captured on the iPhone 15 Pro may seem like regular, high-quality recordings on the device, their true potential is unlocked when viewed on the Apple Vision Pro headset. The headset is slated for release in early 2024, carrying a price tag of $3,500. Until then, users can
