Argylle," directed by Matthew Vaughn, has been released. The star-studded cast includes Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, John Cena, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Adriana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson.
The film, an Apple Original, is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 2 in partnership with Universal Pictures. After its theatrical run, it will be available on Apple TV+.
The story, penned by Jason Fuchs, revolves around Elly Conway (played by Bryce Dallas Howard), a renowned spy novelist. Her fictional plots become valuable assets for a real super-spy agency, with Henry Cavill portraying the character Argylle.
The movie is a joint production between Vaughn’s MARV, Cloudy Productions, and key collaborators Adam Bohling, David Reid, and Jason Fuchs. Executive producers include Carlos Peres, Claudia Vaughn, Zygi Kamasa, and Adam Fishbach. Grammy-winning artist Dua Lipa will also contribute original songs to the film.
Apple secured the rights to «Argylle» in August 2021 for an estimated sum close to $200 million, with plans to develop it into a franchise. The film is adapted from the upcoming novel of the same name by debut author Elly Conway.
When the deal was struck, Matthew Vaughn, known for the «Kingsman» spy thriller franchise, expressed his excitement, stating, «When I read this early draft manuscript, I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the ’50s. This is going to reinvent the spy genre.»
