Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the state assembly stated the state cannot afford a bomb explosion on January 26 (Republic Day) and this will result in flight of investment from Assam.
He said that the anti-talk faction of the ULFA can plant bombs outside the chief minister’s residence and put bombs in parks outside the minister's colony. On August 15, anti-talk ULFA militants planted several bombs but they did not explode. Anti-talk ULFA, which is also known as ULFA(Independent), is led by Paresh Baruah.
Sarma said, “I appeal to Paresh Baruah that Assam has around 19 lakh unemployed youths, the state assembly is responsible to provide employment to these youths.”
He added, “Your talks and discussion are with the Centre, your struggle is with the Centre government. We have restarted the industrialisation process in Assam, Tata Group is setting up a semiconductor industry in Assam. If there happens to be a bomb explosion on January 26, Tata’s will move out of the state. They have not come here for resources, but they have come here purely as a gesture.”
He said, “If they (ULFA-I) want to trigger an explosion in front of my house, I will explode. I do not have a problem. Plant in the park of ministers’ colony, that will be better. I will ask the police to give safe passage and no security personnels will be there, explodes in the garden of the minister’s colony on January 26."
