Sarbananda Sonowal said that the Assam Movement is a vibrant chapter in history of Bharat, where people from all communities united to preserve the greater Assamese identity, and our culture.
On the auspicious occasion of Swahid Diwas, Sonowal offered floral tributes to the martyrs of historic Assam Movement at his official residence here today.
Sonowal said, “The Assam Movement is a vibrant chapter in history of Bharat, where people from all communities united to preserve the greater Assamese identity, and our culture. On this solemn Swahid Diwas, we honour the brave martyrs, whose sacrifices, courage, and patriotism remain our guiding light. Their unparalleled dedication to safeguarding Assam’s identity and the nation's integrity continues to inspire us all.”
The former student leader, Sarbananda Sonowal further said, “It is due to the supreme sacrifices of brave martyrs that we, as public representatives, have the privilege to serve the nation today. The courage and opportunities we must work for society are deeply rooted in the immense sacrifices and hardships endured by these martyrs. During this popular movement, Assam’s youth faced the oppressive rule of the Congress, which inflicted countless atrocities to suppress the movement. Hundreds of young lives were lost, and thousands suffered physical and mental torture. The Congress that speaks of nationalism today was responsible for these unspeakable acts of atrocity on the students and youth of the state—a truth the people of Assam will never forget.”
