BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday visited TOI’s Mumbai office for an interaction. Apart from announcing former South Africa pacer Morne Morkel as team India’s new bowling coach, he also said that the board was not in favour of hosting pink ball tests because “they end in a couple of days.”
«You buy a ticket for a five-day match, but the game ends in 2-3 days… There is no refund. I am slightly emotional about this,» Shah said on day-night Test matches.
India has played only four Tests under the lights so far- three at home and one in Australia. All of them ended in less than three days.
Bangladesh has been going through a crisis and would most likely not host the Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled in October. Shah said he had turned down Bangladesh Cricket Board's request for India to host the Women's T20 World Cup in October.
«Next year, we'll host the 50-overs women's World Cup. We do not want to give any signal that we want to host consecutive World Cups,» he said.
The 35-year-old unveiled more plans from the board, including its state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy (NCA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru which is due to open soon. It can be accessed by top Indian athletes from other disciplines too, he said.
