West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday warned the Block Land Revenue Officers (BLRO) against corruption in land-related matters and directed the state administration to take stern action if someone is found involved in corruption.
Banerjee was speaking at an administrative programme in Siliguri during the last lap of her North Bengal visit. «I am not saying all officers are corrupt but due to some officials, others also earn a bad name.
However, I will not spare the officials who are involved in corruption. Political personalities are under media trial in corruption-related cases.
TV channels show them all day. But what about the BLROs and other officials who are corrupt?» the West Bengal CM questioned.
She also said that funds for certain schemes like minority scholarship and Oikyasree scheme, where the Centre assisted, have been stopped.
Banerjee is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on December 20 to seek the release of dues under MGNREGA and other central schemes, sources said.
The Prime Minister's Office has agreed to Banerjee's request for an appointment, people in the know said.
“The meeting will take place around 11 am on December 20,” sources said.
Banerjee had recently claimed that the Centre owed ₹1.15 lakh crore to West Bengal under various schemes, including 100 days of work under MGNREGA.
Nabanna, the state secretariat, has readied detailed data from the panchayat department, which has breakups of the PM Awas Yojana, MGNREGA, Rural Road and other schemes, people in the know said.
The CM has said that she will take some Trinamool MPs along with her to meet the PM, including Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee.
