Bengaluru Second Airport: Karnataka narrows down to these three locations for new international airport
Karnataka government has proposed three potential locations for Bengaluru’s second international airport. The proposal was sent to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation on Thursday, outlining the sites around Bengaluru where the new airport could be built, a Deccan Herald report stated.
Bengaluru New Airport Locations
According to the proposal, two locations are along Kanakapura Road in south Bengaluru, situated diagonally opposite Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). One location falls under Bangalore Urban district, while the other is in Ramanagara district. The site near Harohalli is within 10 km of the last station on the Green Line of the Bengaluru Metro. The land identified in these locations measures 4,800 acres and 5,000 acres, respectively.
The third location is along Kunigal Road in Nelamangala, where authorities have identified approximately 5,200 acres for the project. The government has assured the Ministry that it is prepared to provide a minimum of 4,500 acres at any of the proposed sites.
Next Steps in Approval Process
Following protocol, the Ministry will send a team from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to assess the locations before making a final decision. Based on the team’s recommendations, a financial feasibility study will be conducted.
The Karnataka government has also informed the Ministry that all three locations are within a 50-km radius of Bengaluru city center, with easy access to major roads and national highways. The Ministry considers any airport within this range to be
