The incident unfolded when the victim, Gautham (name changed), contacted a woman through a portal and was caught in an elaborate extortion scheme.
Gautham, who works for a private firm, found the number of an escort, identified as Amrutha Gill, on a website called massagerepublic.com. Introducing herself by multiple names, Roopa, Kushi, and Sonia, the woman agreed to meet him for three hours at a cost of Rs 15,000.
On November 29, Gautham booked a hotel room on Residency Road, where Roopa arrived around 6:15 p.m. He quickly realized she was in her 30s, contrary to her earlier claim of being 18. He paid her Rs 16,000, which included Rs 1,000 for cab fare, via a digital payment app.
However, the situation escalated when Roopa claimed she was an undercover police officer and threatened to arrest him. Shortly afterward, Gautham received a WhatsApp audio call from a man who introduced himself as Hitesh Kumar, an "IPS officer" and Roopa’s colleague. The caller’s display picture showed a person in a police uniform.
