Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has tested positive for leptospirosis, a bacterial infection commonly linked to tropical fever. As per ANI, Dr. RK Jaswal, Director and Head of the Department of Cardiology at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, confirmed that Mann had responded well to treatment and was showing significant improvement in his health. His vital signs are stable, and his condition has improved after receiving treatment to address increased pulmonary artery pressure.
Mann has been placed on antibiotics to treat the leptospirosis, and his clinical and pathological tests have indicated satisfactory progress, the doctor added.
But what exactly is leptospirosis, and what causes it? Here's a breakdown of the infection, its symptoms, and how it is diagnosed.
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection caused by the bacteria Leptospira, which is found in the urine of infected animals, particularly rodents. Humans can contract the disease through direct contact with contaminated water, soil, or food. The infection is most common in tropical and subtropical regions, especially after heavy rainfall or flooding, as the bacteria thrive in warm and moist environments.
