BJP on Thursday demanded a judicial probe into the death of two people in Katihar, Bihar, in police firing a day before. Two persons were killed and several others injured on Wednesday as police opened fire in Bihar's Katihar district following stone-pelting by protesters who were demanding better electricity supply. «It is shameful to kill two people by firing on those demanding electricity in Katihar and then to justify it.
A judicial inquiry should be conducted into the entire matter and the guilty policemen should be suspended immediately,» senior Bihar BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi told ET. Modi also urged Nitish Kumar to take responsibility for the Katihar firing and announce compensation for the family members of those who died and got injured during the incident. He added that during the NDA rule even rural areas were getting power supply for 18 to 20 hours.
«Today, electricity is available only for four hours, due to which there is widespread anger among the villagers,» he said. Bihar BJP president Samrat Choudhary told ET that the Nitish Kumar government is not able to handle the law and order of the state police. «First, there was a lathi charge in Patna on those demanding jobs in Bihar.
Now, the government is shooting those who ask for electricity. This is extremely unfortunate. Nitish Kumar has lost control over the state administration and his claim of providing 24 hours electricity has fallen flat.
