The Muzaffarpur police department suspended two home guards and a police driver on Sunday for their involvement in disposing of certain remains of a road accident victim into a canal located in the Fakuli area.
This measure followed the circulation of a viral video capturing the two personnel in the act. Subsequently, police authorities retrieved the disfigured body parts and initiated a postmortem examination.
The victim, whose identity remains unknown but is believed to be in his mid-50s, suffered severe disfigurement due to the accident. Reportedly, he was struck by a truck on the Muzaffarpur-Hajipur National Highway during the intervening night between Saturday and Sunday. Allegedly, the truck driver fled from the scene after the incident occurred.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Fakuli outpost area under the Kurhani police station. The video footage clearly shows two home guards employing bamboo sticks to dispose of the victim’s remains into the canal from a nearby bridge.
Rajeev Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarpur, said, “We have suspended two home guards and a driver for dereliction of duty. The incident should not have happened. We are trying to identify the body on the basis of the man’s clothes and are also talking to local residents for clues about him”.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (East) Shahriyar Akhtar, addressing the media, said, “Some parts of the body were stuck under the truck’s wheels, and some parts were scattered on the road.
